We certainly always wanted a return visit to Japan. When living in UK just never got round to it as many other places to go. Been looking at ex PER fares recently all for 2024. Some hefty ones there. ANA was appealing until circ 9K-10K per ticket up the pointy end seemed to be the norm. SQ about 5K per pax...sometimes more. I'm not a Star Alliance chap anyhow. Then
on black Friday we saw it....(maybe available before who knows but you need to tread carefully as on some days not all sectors are in biz and eventually show as mixed cabins ...with VA. The route...PER-BNE-CNS-HND-CNS-BNE-PER. Two tickets in "biz" with VA. Total sum just over 5K all in return. With family pooling also I'm assuming this will be rather nifty for retaining Platinum next year! Had priced Jetstar ex PER to Bali with their Max bundle and that was coming in close to 1K each!!
It will be an experience I'm sure. A few Max aircraft in there now on the routings and it's around 19 hours each way. Just a shame that lounges are absent at CNS and HND but we (well I consider it a good status credit run and week in Japan at a relatively low cost. Mad though? Possibly .. 🤭🫣. Wonder how many times the flights will change! All ticketed.

Why fly direct when you can connect.

Sure some on here will call you mad but I'm all for it. Having once flown an award ticket from Brisbane to Papeete Tahiti via AKL, LAX and SFO and then returning via SFO and SYD I'm well familiar with crazy routes.

Is the PER-BNE a red eye and then the HND-CNS the other red eye?
Yes to the red eyes....although it does actually suite us. Generally from Perth, you get used to having to travelling around.midnight. even SQ, MH , EK and QR are late beasts.

Now the fun part starts, hoping a sector gets cancelled and they put you on the direct with NH.

I’m the biggest advocate of VA77/78 and the crew staffed on that route are always absolutely amazing but even I wouldn’t go through a double connection from WA. You’re more courageous than most of us.

Or foolhardy! 🤪🫣. Can never see VA in the event of "issues" popping us on the NH...besides how about the status points...🫢😂..I think one of the aeroplanes continues on ...CNS-BNE-PER. not that it will.help in event of a canx!
