Yeah as the title asks,

is one allowed to apply for upgrades on ASA's? If so will you become a low priority?

You can upgrade eligible Qantas Any Seat Awards. Flights booked in E, N, O, P, Q, X booking classes are ineligible for points upgrade.

In regards to upgrade priority, upgrades are allocated by tier priority, e.g. a Platinum would have priority over a Bronze.

Brilliant thanks,

JASA with upgrade requests are about to happen. =)

I have 3 International JASA's booked in U that are showing as "Upgrade - Not Available".

These are flights booked way into the second half of the year.....however I would expect to see a message along the lines of "Request Period Opens 90 days etc etc" rather than Upgrade Not Available.

I also have an I class J booking that is showing as "Upgrade Not Available"!!

The "My Bookings" side of the website seems to be very glitchy at the moment. :( I fear it is being enhanced!:p

My understanding is any J seat is upgradeable just give QF FF a call...

I just thought maybe an ASA seat had a special catagory which prevented upgrades... seems like they're identical to normal purchases...

Red Roo's list of ASA booking classes not eligible for upgrades is only for Economy Class Any Seat Awards.

Business class Any Seat Awards (JASA) that book into U class will also be ineligible for upgrade. And all Business Class Any Seat Awards booked on Australian domestic flights will also be ineligible for upgrades, as will all JASAs on certain 2 or 3 class international routes ;)

Similarly First Class Any Seat Awards (FASA) that book into F, A, or P will also be ineligible for upgrades ;).

This is not true - note the exception in rule 16.1.3.

Flight Upgrades are not available when travelling on Restricted Fares (except for those Segments with a Qantas (QF) flight number booked in Z or U class entered on the itinerary as part of a Qantas & Jetstar Any Seat Award),

...and Z in Premium Economy.

Apparently you can upgrade for the cash difference if there is a frequent flyer award seat available. (In my case this was $1,200 from my J U fare to F....if there was ff award seat availability.)

This is not true -

Flights booked into U and Z as "any seat awards" are indeed eligible for points upgrades.

Where they come in 'the pecking order' is another matter.

thanks for the correction. Obviously U can only be upgraded on 4-class international services though. But given the inability of the FF systems to recognise U booked JASAs for SC/Points earning, I am not confident that the upgrade systems (read proactive on-load of Altea) recognises the difference.

My view was that a JASA booked in U was upgradable.

I rang QF to check and got the story that it was upgradable only by cash payment! (Hence my previous comment)

The fare conditions in my booking say upgradable, but I get the "Upgrade Not Available" page.

Red Roo - Could you clarify?

The Qantas CSA you spoke to was incorrect.:-|

You need to call QFF and ask for your upgrade request to be waitlisted. It seems the on-line facility has not yet been made to work for these fares.

As for the spot in the queue my belief is an SG with a U class JASA would be in front of all PS/NB etc but behind CL/WP and those SG booked in J,C,D or I.

long time lurker, first time poster (+ big fan of all your work!)

this above paid upgrade sounds awesome - would they allow a JASA (SYD-LHR) to be upgraded with $ to F on flight with P class availability around the same date, or would it only work if available on the exact flight numbers already booked?

by the by, i'm trying to find a cheap JASA return flight (currently booked as a classic in U) for approx 144k LHR-SYD/orMEL/orBNE mid august - i find U availability for fares via expertflyer, but it isn't giving me anywhere near 144k (more like 800k) e.g 15/08/11 QF3346 LHR - SIN and 16/08/11 SIN-MEL showing U class but as multi citi or direct it is asking for 800K points. any ideas or workarounds on how i can setup an alert on expert flyer for a cheaper JASA? understand i will get a 5000 point penalty for cancelling the classic

strance
will make WP this year if i can find a good value JASA back from LHR - fingers crossed !

Just to confuse the issue, this is from the conditions of my SIN-MEL-SIN "Business Saver" JASA, which booked in to 'U':

Qantas Frequent Flyer
· Flight Upgrade Awards are not eligible on this fare.
· Points and Status Credits may be earned on this fare. Classed as Business when Points or Status Credits are earned on this fare.
· Frequent Flyers do not earn points on Qantas codeshares with Deutsche Bahn.

Not complaining though, as this was clear before making the booking.
