I was trying to book some flights bne-syd last night for the end of February.

Talking it over with the partner, but then within 30mins every time we did a dummy booking the flights went
$79
$79 (hurry)
$151
$151 (hurry)
$171
$171 (hurry)
before my eyes a flight that was going to cost $79 more then doubled.... sigh... as my internet was playing up I would go to book and it would timeout....

Must of been a rush on seats last night ?

At $171 for each person I would be having a clsoer look at NTL and grabbing a hire car if you have time for the drive, or depending on the day looking at an OOL departure if you are not QF only.

I ended up doing a DJ flight back...sigh... at $79 I can't complain for them. I can afford the price, I just can't justify it for a short hop.

I love flying but makes me wonder when a decent high speed rail system could be built between east coast states... Wouldn't qantas be pissed

This worked for me once.

I was checking for a price, came back 30 mins later and the fare has risen $30. (it was a SYD - MEL). I refreshed / deleted my cookies, queried again and got it for the original price. Maybe I was lucky or just maybe QF has a system that identifies me (by my cookie) and ups the cost after a few queries?

Worth a try!

I highly doubt it was cookies... Lucky maybe? Maybe they released some more seats at the lower price? Or maybe you had simply misread the price \ or where looking at a different flight without realising it...

I thought about that. Knowing a little about web servers , if you do a dummy booking upto the payment screen it holds your 'session' open for about 20 mins giving you a unique cookie ID.

So I logged out of my QF FF account and Cleared cookies and tried the same, but seems we just missed the small window of seats avail on that flight.

At one stage my partner opened a search with a $79 price and mine opened 2 seconds later at $151... All down to timing I guess
