Article: Get Virgin Australia Perks With These Star Alliance Gold Statuses

I'm thinking of applying for the HSBC *Alliance card in Jan 2025 and sekking *A Gold status with Aeroplan. As I understand, I will keep *A Gold until end of Dec 2026 with Aeroplan. Is this correct?

Also, I understand *A Gold with Aeroplan gets me access to Va Domestic lounges +1 guest (but no other benefits like priority boarding etc) if flying Va. Is this correct?

Thanks

When you spend $60K in the first year and pay the second annual fee of $450, yes.

Yes, as the article states:

Thanks. I think it is $4000 in first year and $60000 in subsequent years. Annual fee is waived for 1st year, then $450 after.

I was thinking of keeping the card for 2 years for *A Gold via Aeroplan, then cancelling and asking +1 to apply. So *A Gold for 2 years for $450...not too bad! We tend to, but not always, travel together these days...to keep an eye on each other! ;)

Yes, but you are asking about 2 years of status: Jan 2025 to Dec 2026.

You get 1 year of status — Jan 2025 to Jan 2026 — with $4K spend & $0 annual fee.

Further to KPC's comment, I have recently received my HSBC Star Alliance card and nominated Aeroplan as my status airline. I would have spent the min $4k by end of Nov24, rather than the first 90 days. Does that mean my Aeroplan 'extra year' of VA benefits ends 31Dec25 rather than 31Dec26? I'm assuming once I hit the $4k, time automatically starts, or does it require me to manually claim status, in which case, am I better to do this on/from 1Jan25 to add the extra 2026 calendar year?

Has anyone confirmed the extra benefits recently, especially the extra baggage allowance? I have ANA Platinum status.
This page outlines the details:

Slide across the the other airlines tab.

NH status holders on VA gets
- Priority check in/baggage
- One extra piece (on fares that include a bag) or 20kg extra on fares with a weight limit.

Lounge access, priority boarding/security and any other status benefits aren’t included.
