Aruba or Dominican Republic?

I will be flying out of EZE and want to take my partner away for 1 week. The most important thing for us is the weather and beach, would love nice blue water and the ability to relax on the beach all day. Some decent shopping would also help. I have heard Aruba is a nice place, we looked at Punta Cana as well. Seems like most options are all inclusive. Any experiences or opinions would be greatly appreciated. Travel would be in early March. Budget is under $5000 AUD for hotel/flights etc

I have only done Aruba (8 years ago) and I liked it very much. We stayed at the Occidental Grand in an all inclusive formula. There is not that much to do on the island though...

Thanks for the input, we will be happy to spend the days relaxing on the beach getting some sun. It's more of a chilll out holiday.
