I appreciate any help in confirming my decisions to book a PE ASA. I have never done this before, always used Classic Award or paid flights. But I am being educated by reading this site, thank you.

By the end of this year I will need some Status points to reach Gold ( am silver at the moment ) and am needing to book a one way flight to Singapore from Brisbane at the end of October. I need to conserve as many of my points as possible for a business flight to LHR in 2013 so I am interested in a PE ASA for 45,000 points with $330.12 to pay.

My questions are....

1. If I purchase this flight and had to cancel ( cost $250 according to the fare conditions, this is a Premium Economy Saver ) would I get back my 45,000 points.

2. How many FF points and status credits would I get for this flight.

I realise that I could ring up Qantas to get the answers to my questions but really have more faith in the knowledgable people on this site. Thanks guys.

Calculating the point & SC earn is easy via the QF website https://www.qantas.com.au/fflyer/do/dyns/initialPointsEarned

The earn for BNE-SIN is 60SC....point earn for silver is 6675.

You need to read the T&C of the fare for refunds. Without sighting the rules, what you describe would have the points fully refunded - however, you should check with QF prior to booking.

Thanks for your reply.

T&C says cancellation before departure will be a fee of $250 so I guess that means I would get a small refund in cash plus all points back. Is that correct?

So if I book this PE ASA flight I will receive the points and SC as you kindly wrote in your reply.

I have a similar question and having read several posts previously I think I know the answer but it does not hurt to check.

If I book a domestic JASA in May/June in an attempt to take advantage of the DSC offer and get to WP and it transpires that I cannot travel on the dates booked, can I cancel with no penalty and a return of any cash paid and any points spent?

You always need to check the fare conditions, there is no one answer to this as they do vary in terms of costs, it's a myth that premium fares are unrestricted, some offer no refunds, however most domestic fares are fully refundable.

I have booked a fully refundable JASA and subsequently cancelled. All points were returned (eventually!). Though I have not (yet) cancelled a points + $$ booking - but would expect to receive both back (less the credit card booking fee). Just be sure to cancel by phone rather than via the web site. Of course, if a "saver fare" is booked, then circumstances might be different.

As always check the fare rules, what occurred in the past is not necessarily the case in the future, I note QF now have this proviso for domestic J : ^ If this fare is booked as part of the Global Business Class sale, Domestic Business Companion Sale, Two or more Sale, the fare is non-refundable, two or more passengers must be booked and travel together, child discounts do not apply.
