I saw this and wonder if it's exceptional value? qf32 747 flight.

points 7816 (my being Gold) and 180 SCs earned as well.

Its a lot cheaper than the normal 500-600K, mind you there is also a sprinkling of A380 J seats for 60K + $365, for someone with many points the value would be higher than someone with just enough, its all relative. Certainly shows there are some reasonable opportunities out there, would love to know how they work out the cost.

In comparison, SQ has J seats at 38250 miles + taxes and charges of SGD186, for B777-300 service.

I am not sure what SQ have to do with it, different earn and burn rate and using their rewards does not allow you to retain/earn status. I think any award that comes close to the classic levels yet earns SC's is good value, as its close to a perfect award for me, that is, there is no difference in terms of what you get just because you used a different method of payment. Now for a hotel chain that owners elite benefits on reward stays in full :)

If you already have lifetime status, flying business or first, and/or are earning your miles through Credit Cards, then earning status doesn't really matter.

For some perhaps not, others probably like the little extras that go with status that cannot be bought or the bonus miles, like seat selection in advance, non status gets row 3 in J all the time for the 737 flights, and of course having a much larger range of seats for award redemption! How many times do we see "I got xx_xx_xx_ points and cannot get a seat" with a WP or SG seeing availability the frequent credit card user cannot? ASAs are not always good value, and classics have a place, but its a good improvement to have ASAs earning points and SCs.

There is little doubt about positives of the ASA...burn points for flights and at the same time earn SCs and more points. The SQ allows some, me included, to gain ff miles with little or no flying. I have accummulated 500k miles purely with cc and absolutely no flying with SQ. Once ff points and ff miles are (however) earned and in the respective accounts, how to put these to best use? Take for example, SIN-SYD or vv. in J. A380 J seats for 60K + $365 vs. B777-300 seat for 38250 miles + SGD186. I also toss SQ's 38250 miles against cost of around 76000 miles for SIN-LAX via NRT in F.

Well this thread got me inspired.

I just booked an ASA award in J A380 4th October. 60,000points +215 in fees and c/card charges.

As a WP I was pre-allocated seat 11J. This will be my first QFA380 flight. I have flown EK F A380 several times to Europe so will be an interesting flight.

I will retain EK Gold as I will be continuing on to Europe with then in F. (Sadly 777 from SIN - DXB) :( But... returning also in F. (Happily in A380):)

That's an unfair comparison QF J A380 vs EK F A380 ;) However with J/K seats you are closest to the (IMO not very practical) on-board lounge area and may be annoyed by the passenger movement to and from there.

Personally, I prefer the A/B side in the mini-cabins but now can no longer pre-allocate seats in rows 11-13 as I'm not a WP.
