Hi all,

Does anyone know if it possible transfer Ascent Premium points to Ascent points? And if so is there a fee payable (as there is for Ascent to Ascent Premium)? The reason for doing this would be closing a Plat Charge but still having a Plat Edge.

Secondary question / option is it possible to enroll at Plat Charge in normal Ascent and not Ascent Premium? Or alternatively downgrade an Ascent Premium account to an Ascent account?

Sorry a lot of questions for early in the morning!

If you have a Plat Charge and Edge both connected to the Ascent Premium, the downgrade to Ascent should occur at the time of closing the Plat Charge. It is a bit of a bizarre process though, points will disappear for a few days, the reappear.

Wow sounds scary! Would be a little bit concerning to have them gone for so long.

Thanks for the reply.

Why would someone want to downgrade?
what is the advantage of non premium?

So that someone can cancel their plat charge card and essentially pool all their points (along with those from their plat edge) into the one ascent account...

as others have said this should happen automatically but i would recommend mentioning it when you cancel the plat charge to ensure it is fully processed - its likely a new MR account needs to be created in Ascent and the existing points transferred.

There are lots of 'shoulds' in this thread.... but has anybody actually successfully done it?

When I called amex to try to see if i could have all my points credited (whilst earning) to the same program (even if it was only the normal Ascent) they told me it was not possible because of the different points earning structure... but basso says 'If you have a Plat Charge and Edge both connected to the Ascent Premium'.... Amex tells me this is not possible.... anybody else have their MR account setup to have all points from Plat Edge and Charge drop into it?

What if i went the other way, and closed down my Plat Edge, would the points be transferred into my Ascent Premium account... i doubt it...

I have a Plat Charge with the (free) Plat Reserve combo and they both pool into a single Ascent Premium account - so perhaps possible to ditch the Edge, sign up for the (free) Reserve and then ditch the Plat Charge?

Obviously risky doesn't matter what, if you have a large number of points in your account I wouldn't do anything unless you get confirmation in writing from AMEX!

I agree would be good to know from someone that has actually done this upon cancelling a Plat Charge?

Indeed, very sound advice.

Alright... so I got the info straight from the horse's mouth as below.

They tell me you can link your plat charge and plat edge to one MR account! Hooray!

And when you close your Plat Charge account, the MR Ascent Premium account will get downgraded to the normal Ascent program.

From Amex;
Dear aaronjames000,
Good morning. I will be glad to answer your queries.
I've checked your Card account and I see that your Platinum Charge Card and your Platinum Edge Card are not linked under one Membership rewards account.
Therefore, when you choose to cancel your Platinum Card, you will have to redeem your points or they will get forfeited. Alternately, you can link both the Cards under your Ascent Premium Rewards program so that all the points that you earn from your Cards ending in ABCDE and UVXYZ, get accumulated under one Membership Rewards account.
As a result of this, when you cancel your Platinum Card, the points will remain as it is, only the Reward program will get down graded to Reward Ascent program.
I hope the above clarification is helpful. Please feel free to write to me if you require any further assistance or information with this or any other matter.
It will be my pleasure to assist you again.
Sincerely,

The response makes sense. I have one Ascent Premium account shown under my Platinum Edge for the points from all three cards: Platinum Edge, Platinum Card and Business Platinum Card.

Same! Except just for my Edge and Plat Charge.

Funny how it shows under the "lesser" card, but that was the one I had first.
