Hi guys,

I need urgent assistance with a fare I booked at last years Brisbane travel expo. I booked 4 flights BNE-LAX-MCO return and about 3 months after booking my daughter got a new job and had to cancel her joining us because she had no leave available. The fare was refunded into her name only and I could not have the fare credited to me. I now have 2 weeks to re book the fare, and my daughter cannot use the fare, but I want to. I have been told I cannot use the fare my daughter needs to. I am platinum and my wife gold and we want to use the fare for a trip later this year with my son. We will be purchasing 3 international fares through VA. If we cannot use this fare somehow, with the loyalty I have given VA over the years, and I need to forfeit the $1000 plus and I will really consider returning to Qantas. I want to spend this money with VA, I want to continue spending money with VA and all my domestic trips are with VA. I know there are fare rules, I know we need to pay cancellation fees, but let's be reasonable here, VA will get the money regardless, and I can guarantee that. What can be done to move this fare into my name.

You will need to read the Ts and Cs of the fare but I suspect nothing. QF will have a similar policy. You will need to book a flight(s) in your daughter's name before the fare is forfeited, I fear. Can your daughter not go on 2-3 domestic trips if she hasn't got the time to go OS?

I agree with kpc, you may well be out of luck. You may as well find some creative ways for your daughter to use her fare.

Alternatively call the Platinum line again and plead your case. Or, PM the AFF representative. Ask if you can pay a name change penalty.

If you had substituted QF for VA in this case, the result would likely have been the same.

Unless your WP status comes in to play (on occasion domestically) fare conditions will always apply. New job? Is it her dream job?

Thanks, yes it is a dream job for her. I have a agent I originally booked through pleading my case with VA. I understand the resection sand am trying my best to not forfeit. I thought a name change would be possible, but have been told so many different stories. It really shouldn't be this hard to spend money..

My daughter booked a flight for her husband and had to cancel it, but Virgin allowed her a name change and she used the money on a flight for her self, it was a domestic flight so maybe that makes a difference? It was last year so perhaps Virgin have changed the rules. Good luck.

Thanks for all the replies. I have en successful in a name change and my wife and I are off to Seattle and Vancouver in May.

That's great news. Were there any penalties for the change?

That is an excellent result. I'm not sure that QF would ever allow a name change!

$200 for the name change. We chose to return to USA as the taxes were already paid for. Pretty good result overall, thanks VA

No Qantas definatley won't! Have tried that, only the person named on the original ticket can re use it.
