I was driving past Sydney airport this morning near where the M5 and General Holmes Drive meet and I noticed a heap of planes in the overflow plane park (LOL - that's what I call it) . One of the planes was an Atlas Cargo 747 freighter and I noticed painted near the nose QANTAS... (plus some other stuff) I couldn't tell what the other words said. (driving too fast) I was just wondering why the QANTAS name would be painted on an Atlas Cargo freighter?

If I remember correctly QF operates 2-3 747F from Atlas ("wet lease")

OK, thanks that makes sense however I have seen this mentioned on other threads.... what does 'Wet Lease' means?

There is "dry lease" and "wet lease".

Wet Lease means the plane and crew are supplied.
Dry Lease means only the plane is supplied.

Qantas operate quite a few aircraft in their freight division and will soon have a 744 joining the 767 that's in QF colours sans roo on the tail.
