If electric cars take off in Australia our fuel taxes won't work going forward. Currently there are reputed to be 7,500 electric cars on the Australian roads so it doesn't matter just yet plus they are all pretty expensive so the average car buyer would probably not want to buy one. The other problem is our power supply in most residential streets is probably insufficient to fast charge many cars at the same time.

So I am thinking new road use taxes would need to be considered rather than fuel taxes and pricing subsidies to get sales moving.Those changes cannot be made without a lot of planning as Australia cannot afford another NBN type screw up.
