Doing some planning to get to Japan in J.

What do people think about JL vs QF in J.

Also, SC & Points earn on JL vs QF?

Thanks

It depends on the route.

Are you limiting to JL/QF? Do day or overnight flights matter?

JQ fly from CNS and OOL to NRT, MEL to KIX (via CNS)
NH fly from SYD to HND
JL fly from SYD and MEL to NRT
QF fly from MEL and BNE to NRT, SYD to HND and KIX

If you are earning to QF, then QF codes will earn the most.

Sorry for missing some valid points.

Yes, looking to add to QF lifetime SC count so would prefer QF, JL or JQ.

The JQ flights use 787-8s, the J seats are more like QF 747/A380 W seats.
The QF flights to NRT and KIX use A330 with the suites. These flights are day north and overnight south. SYD-KIX is 3 weekly, BNE/MEL-NRT are daily.
QF to HND uses 747 with Skybed 2s. It is overnight in both directions (though when they have major 747 fleet delays, they tend to delay the north bound overnight for a early afternoon departure)
The JL flights use 787s with suites. JL774 (MEL-NRT) and JL771 (NRT-SYD) are overnight, JL772 (SYD-NRT) and JL773 (NRT-MEL) are day.

JALs sky suite - the Apex Suite - is one of the best business class seats out there (possibly in the league of Q suites or DeltaOne suites?). The window seats on these are like 7+ foot long. Direct aisle access. Wide. Comfortable and very private (better than first on many carriers for privacy). These are aircraft designated as SS8 and fly from Melbourne and I think some services fm SYD.

JAL has a number of suites, which are all slightly different depending on the type of aircraft. For the 787, they have SS8 (787-8), SS9 and SS9II (787-9).
They have SS8 on MEL and SS9 on SYD.
This has info on the SS7, SS8 and SS9 seating: JAL SKY SUITE (Seats) - JAL International Flights
They also have Sky Suite 2 (SS6) and Sky Suite 3 (SS9II and SS2).

I've had the SS6 seating on my overnight SIN-HND flights for the past few years. This is one of the few routes (typically short ~6 hour overnight flights and lunch time Asia>Europe flights) where I tend to have problems adjusting to timezone changes and getting enough sleep. I have never had that problem when using a JAL Sky Suite. I've gotten better sleep on SS6 then I have on CX to JFK or on the QF Skybed 2.

Thanks all.

Just wondering about SC earn on JL. From the QF tables, will JL earn SC in CDJX classes at what I'm assuming will be the SC earn at same rate as if I few on QF (disc J would be 11025pts & 125SC one way SYD-NRT).

Is this correct?

SYD-TYO on JL will earn 60SC and 6000 points in any of the business class fare codes (CDJX).
On QF, I earns 120, D earns 125 and C or J earn 135. Point earn is between 7,200 and 14,300 depending on fare class and status.

QF codeshares on the JL flights between SIN and TYO. As an example, the NRT-SIN. JL711/QF4024
A Platinum flying D will earn:
JL711 4000 points, 100 SC
QF4024 8400 points, 105 SC
