I know a few members use and recommend avis.co.uk, particularly for US car rentals.

I currently have a booking with National through their UK website for a Mustang Convertible for 10 days in late August for US$478/GBP363 (~AU$640). Booking is pay at the time, not prepaid (the prepay discount was only about a dollar).

I've realised that I can reduce the amount by a further ~AU$60 through avis.co.uk, using the QFF AWD to get 10% off, provided I prepay now. Rate is GBP335 (~AU$580).

Is it possible to add the booking to my Preferred profile to get Preferred benefits? The Avis UK website doesn't recognise my login details (from memory, I think the UK preferred is not linked to any other country) and I can't see anywhere to add my Preferred details during the booking process.

Would you use Avis or stick with National (I've signed up to Emerald Club)?

EDIT: I've just discovered Avis UK has a 15% off offer for US rental, reducing the cost to GBP 317 (~AU$550, a saving of AU$90 on my current booking).

I routinely book via Avis.com.au and sometimes Avis.co.uk or Avis.com. No problem logging into my profile.

Not too sure what preferred benefits you're expecting... There aren't a lot!

On Avis.co.uk, are you currently able to log in? I am not - it keeps coming up with an error advising my password and e-mail address do not match, but I can log into avis.com.au fine.

The key Preferred benefit I am after is the ability to skip the queue, as I'll be renting from LAX in summer (just realised I hadn't clarified that).

I've previously had issues with Avis UK and AvisBA
Called Avis and had them add in my preferred number on multiple bookings.
All worked fine except the recent pick up at SYD where the car wasn't pre-assigned and they insisted on trying to up sell me to everything. Claimed that the booking was a TA one. I think this was an Avis SYD issue though.

I have a separate account for Avis UK as you have all the troubles recounted here trying to use your existing Avis account. Was no problem setting it up.mostly you get the Preferred benefits though some places are not great at it and Sydney is often at fault.Atlanta and LAX can be problematic too.

I tried signing up for a UK Preferred account, but Australia does not appear on the list of countries for an address! Neither does the US. It allows an Australian phone number and driver's licence, but not address.

When you book a vehicle through Avis UK it asks if you want to set up an account-that's what I did and use my existing Avis preferred number. So it automatically appears in all Avis UK bookings.

Do people generally find Avis.co.uk better for EU bookings than .com.au or .com?

They used to be always better, now not so much. For this next trip the UK office was cheaper for rentals in the US and Sydney. The Aussie site was far cheaper for our rental in the UK.Go figure.
