Booking a rental car here in Tassie.Couldn't remember my Wizard number at first. The cheapest car for a week without my number was $190.When I found my Avis number and put it in it went up to $350.Repeated 3 times and ended up booking without my wizard number in.

Pretty ordinary, just had a great run in the US with an Avis rental.

I've had this issue before and refuse to book using Wizard number.

Customer care doesn't care.

Well I have just completed booking 4 rentals-1 in SYD the others-LAX,MIA and DFW.
looked at avis Australia and UK sites.both with and without Wizard number. So the results.
SYD.Best-AU without wizard.
LAX-AU with wizard.
MIA-AU with wizard.
DFW-UK with wizard.

I've posted in this thread as the title is relevant. I'm having issues with Avis in Thailand and don't remember having similar issue with Hertz but from memory had similar issue with Marriott so perhaps a Thailand issue.

Hire a car in coughet on 21 November for 2 days and there are 2 pending charges on 28 Degrees for AUD95 car hire and AUD334 (8000 baht) excess.

Returned the car on 23 November and all ok and AUD95 is now a charge but the pending excess charge still there and affecting available credit limit. They do say it takes 8 days to refund excess but it has actually been 9 or 10 days.

Why 8 days? Does this happen in any other country or specific to Thailand?

Hire Car pre-authorization?

8 Days? Count your self lucky.

Back in the 90's in Oz it was three weeks - back then I came across many issues with pre-auths occupying credit limit. Once had $3k in various unrequited pre-auths clogging a card up toward the end of a three week holiday.

These days I use a 'charge' card.

Hire Car pre-authorization?

8 Days? Count your self luhky.
Could well be pre-authorisation but both receipts look identical. The excess on these bookings is THB8000 and you pay that up front and when you return the car the charge is cancelled.
