Looking at an 140,000 point award trip to Europe next year and just completed a dummy booking for 2 in whY.

SYD-LHR-MAD –MXP / BUP-IST / HEL-SIN-SYD Flights available but taxes and charges for two people came out at $1,967.28

SYD-LHR-SYD came out at $1,768.00

SYD-FRA-SYD came out at $1,626.00

Taxes have obviously risen since 2010 when our trip round the world, travelling through LHR three times came out at just over $1,400.00.

Just a bit surprised at how high the taxes and charges are.

Do any of the above Airports have excessive charges?

We are willing to change the first Itinerary to reduce them..

In common with many airlines, Qantas have this scam going called fuel surcharges, whereby they pretend that fuel is not an operational expense, but a surchargeable item.

This has risen quite significantly this year, and is now $290 each way from Australia -> London. So you are looking at $1160 of extra charges just there.

You can try substituting in Cathay flights. Their fuel surcharges are slightly cheaper. Finnair's surcharges are pretty high from memory.
