What is the best way to book award (US domestic) flights in the US using QFF points?

Login to qantas.com and do a search?

It'll give you domestic flights on American Airlines. I've only ever made 2 domestic bookings (IAD-DFW-LAS and AUS-LAX-SFO) and both in 'F' but have never had a problem getting the availability I want (all booked about a month in advance).

If you are trying to build status with QF, another option is to look for instant upgrade fares.

Note that award flights in the US are classic only. You won't get points or SCs.

On the net would be the best way if you are talking ease and lowest cost, ringing QF would be the best in terms of choice of options as often online options are limited. You may also wish to credit some of your pre departure business to AA, we have quite a few AA experts here who can provide their experience and tips in relation to this, as I believe the options and value may be better. Also look at transferring non airline points across, at times they may represent good value when there is a bonus offer available such as recent AA ones.

You do not need to be a member of AAdvantage to get seat selection. Just need to know the AA booking reference and can select online anyway.

Gee Dave - here I was thinking I could get in with some advice first - but trust a Moderator to be right on top of things! Have done exaxtly the same as you said on two occasions - and no member of AA. Of well, at least the right advice got posted!

Just another way to look at things. You do not say where you intend flying. Earlier in 2010 we found for our plans it was better value (rather than spend QF points) to join Alaska's Mileage plan(got a bonus at the time) & buy miles-will not work for everyones different needs
