I moved to Dubai a few months ago, and have a stack of QF points I'll need to use up. While I'll occasionally head back to Australia, there is obviously a lot more opportunity to use them with EK or One World carriers going to other countries.
I don't have any problem finding award flights on EK going to DXB when searching the Qantas site (at least in economy). I can find returns to Dubai from MEL/SYD/BNE as well as other origins like ATH, BCN, etc. If I try to find flights from DXB, it give me no EK at all. Economy to a variety of different destinations, a variety of months out, and nothing (except an occasional EK flight interlined on a RJ itinerary).
As an example, I see things like this with return searches:
BNE-DXB on 1st, DXB-BNE on 11th - award flights on EK available
BNE-DXB on 21st, DXB-BNE on 31st - award flights on EK available
DXB-BNE on 11th, BNE-DXB on 21st - no award flights on EK
There would appear to be inventory available for the third search, because I get offered the first two. Does anyone know if QF/EK have some point of commencement restrictions which means you can't book EK itineraries ex-DXB, or might it just be a website issue and the call centre could book them if I tried?
