Hi All, I'm in the USA at the moment and on Thursday I'll be looking for a couple of AAward seats for a trip MEL-MAD in June 2017. Thursday here is the day my preferred date opens up but does anyone know what time of day seats get released? I'll be in SFO. Thanks.

Always midnight GMT for most oneworld carriers.

American seems a little different - I have found Midnight Dallas time or Midnight Origin time whichever is later. e.g. For June, in Melbourne then 3pm DFW-LAX and 5pm LAX-DFW.

Having posted that, AA don't seem to make so much premium available on the 330 day mark anymore - some times 1 or two days later or sometimes 2 weeks or often never.

I seem to be in that annoying twilight zone. When I search I get multiple options but then when I go to book I get the error message saying 'that flight is no longer available. Please modify your search'. I've tried every option showing and they all give that same message. I guess I'll keep trying for another day or two and if still happening try calling them

Are you trying to book into Qantas First?

There are a lot of reports about the American Airlines advantage award booking engine showing "phantom" availability.

Pest trick is to check with expertflyer or kvs to see if "P" class is available.

Other than that you might like to try awardnexus

Thanks serfty, I'm trying to get J or F, don't mind too much which airline so long as they have lie-flat seats. Also been trying just to get to anywhere in Europe and then purchase a short flight to MAD, but no luck there either. I've done some searches on the QF and BA websites as well, to check for airlines that AA don't show; QF showed flights I would have been happy with going with CX but the AA operator couldn't see them. The AA operator was fantastic, spent about 45 mins searching for me but couldn't find anything that worked. I've never tried expertflyer or such but yes might be time to try them. Cheers.

Hi serfty, thanks for the tips, I was able to sign up with EF's free 5 day subscription and found flights with MH in J MEL-LHR that will do nicely. I needed two seats, EF showed four seats available but the AA operator could only see one so we're going on separate flights on consecutive days, so not too bad. Certainly way better that Y! Cheers :)

My issue is partly related to this thread so I'll not start a new one. I am looking for AA award availability on CX to Manchester. It's a few days until my date opens on AA. I can see J availability on BA's website for my preferred flight but none in J for the same flight on the QF site. Is BA more reliable than QF as a predictor of AA availability? Or are both really hit and miss? I am building up my list of alternative flights to put to the AA operator when I phone.
