I'm just very confused about the reward seats on VA.

My understanding is that VA does not give points or SC on any seat award.

What is the advantage t on choosing Any seat award if that's the case?

Reward/classic seats are very limited and require less points.

Any seat awards are available on any flight but require many, many more points.

Neither earn points or SCs.

Are they really very limited? I booked two return seats in J class to Europe (on Etihad) less than six months out without a problem. It would have been nice to earn SCs, but I understand why not. It's double dipping really.

Yes.

Try a few dummy bookings. It is not unusual to see no classic award availability.

Anyseat awards are available on all flights, if you can afford the points. Classic Js are usually cheaper than Anyseat Y.

I find classic award availability very good for domestic J, very poor for domestic Y. International Y can be good.

I value my DJ points at about 3c each, and this makes ASA's generally 30-50% more expensive then a revenue ticket .... along with no SC's or FF's they serve no purpose for me.

I suspect however that we here at AFF are not the target audience.

By my calculations, DJ points are only worth 3-4c on long haul J flights. A lot less when redeeming at the store. Nitpick, sorry.

Oh yes, sure, I agree. Nit worth picking. On most Y flights or FF store redemption I'd probably only receive 0.5-0.7c/point.
