Recently returning to Perth from overseas I have been subjected to a long, hideously boring commercial video about the destination.
The whole thing is about 30 minutes long and takes over the IFE well before the aircraft starts its descent.
It seems to be used by at least EY, MH and CX - I can't remember if QF or VA used it last time I flew with either of them.
Does anyone know who is responsible for this abomination?
Have other Australian cities produced similar horror movies?

If it wasn't for the fact that JohnM would probably hit me over the head with a bottle of [-]very good[/-] cheap wine, I might ask if it was the nature of the destination that made the video horrid, or something else :)

I know the video you are talking about, but don't remember it being anywhere near 30 minutes long (but that may have changed).

I loathe the video and agree it takes too long and goes for too long.

I suspect it's probably paid for by the duty free conglomerate because it gets a fair mention in the video which makes me think it's a commercial deal.

It's definitely commercial. It advertises some godawful place called "Coventry Markets" in Morley as if it were a cosmopolitan shopping and food destination. Morley!
It should be optional, not forced into everyone's IFE preventing them from finishing whatever they might be watching.

Morley (+/- !) doesn't seem too bad. There's roller derby after all, Mr Cricket comes from there and there's a well located bus station.

Morley is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia, situated approximately 10 kilometres (6 mi) northeast of Perth's central business district within the City of Bayswater local government area. It contains the Centro Galleria, Perth's second-largest commercial shopping centre, constructed in 1994. The Morley bus station is near the Centro Galleria. From the late 1950s, Morley (originally known as Morley Park) began to develop as a major shopping and commercial centre.

Morley Recreation Centre facilitates various sporting activities such as indoor soccer, basketball, badminton, netball., roller skating and roller derby. Teams compete in weekly matches and winners receive trophies at the end of each season.

Australian test cricketer Michael Hussey and Victorian Bushranger cricketer David Hussey were both raised in Morley.

It's always good to find out something about a foreign country before actually going there, WA is no exception.

I might have been to Morley, by bus, :p the 950 bus to the city is frequent so you can get away quickly.

The Galleria had a bit of a fire about a year ago.

I remember seeing a video on a flight back from Singapore on Qantas, in 2014 before the flight was cut, if it helps pay to keep flight service then I am all for it.

Definitely international only.

Yes the Galleria had a transformer catch fire which killed a number of electricians that were working on it at the time.

The only time I've ever been to the Galleria I was started on by a group of youths (I was also a youth at the time). Chose never to return.

Never experienced this video on QF, CX, MH, SQ, JQ or D7 internationally - though of course, no screens on JQ or D7.

I have, however, experienced the hideous "Malaysia, truly asia" on MH, after a red eye flight in which the FA's were so hideous they scowled at me for asking for water. Needless to say between the video and the FA's it's no surprise they're losing money.

And of course no videos domestically though if we did make one, there's a fancy new quay everyone's talking about.

MH used to play the video when the 777's were doing the 124/125 in and out of PER, that I can remember for a fact

MH is definitely playing the video on A330s on flight 125 into PER. I know because I was on it on the 17th of January 2016.
Hence this post!
I am fairly sure CX played it when I was on CX137 on the 25th of October 2015.
And QF on QF72 on the 29th of June 2015.

I haven't flown SQ into PER for years, I've never flown with D7 and I have never and will never set foot on a JQ aircraft so I can't comment on them.

I certainly don't remember anything like that on SQ Sin - Per in September last year.

Seriously? On Qantas? No wonder people choose other carriers.

My mh experience was a330 but 4 years ago.

Know its a long shot, but does anyone have a copy of the video or know where to find it without being inbound into Perth? I just want to see how nasty this thing is. I mean if they need to feature Coventry's, they must be scrapping the barrel for things to do in Perth cause that thing is a car parts warehouse converted into a wannabe marketplace which nobody actually goes to.
