AY (Finnair) new fares and QF earn issue?

Last week 2 June, I purchased and flew same day BLQ HEL Economy Flex. Finnair recently changed their short haul ticket types which came into effect 1 June and as a consequence earn tables also updated

Booking conformation came through showing economy flex. Qantas does not currently have this route in their earn calculator, most likely as it is seasonal but looking at MXP and FCO both show this should have learnt 30SC and 1100P. Today the credits came through at half the expected rates. Looking through my inbox I found the ticket receipt showing fare class S which lines up with the old earn table now listed as "Scheduled flight without a ticket type". 4 economy classes are listed, S being at a 50% earn so some discount involved I would have thought.


Have I made a mistake thinking these new ticket types would be reflected in Qantas earn? If this is indeed a mistake how would I best go about rectifying?

To clarify what AIRwin is saying, it doesn't matter what the Operating carrier calls their fare product. Heck they could've called it First class (i.e. American) it doesn't mean that's what you will accrue. The key giveaway of what you will earn is the fare class code, which in your case is S. Per the Qantas Frequent Flyer table they linked to, that corresponds to normal Economy in terms of status credit and frequent flyer point accrual. In the future, to avoid disappointment, please look at the fare code and flight numbers before you book to get an accurate estimate of what you'll be earning.

And to close the circle here on American (and Alaskan for that matter). In the United States, business class is called First class meaning that you'll often just receive business class level status credits and points flying US carriers in First. The only notably exception are the handful of American Airlines domestic flights which feature both a business and a first class cabins. In which case you would indeed earn at a First class rate if you were booked into First class on such flights.

Well, for those flights you don't always earn in first class category, as you explained in the first part of your comment. For example, discount "Flagship First" fares often book into "D" class which is a business earn rate on Qantas, despite being in a first-class cabin. Only the unrestricted "F" or the less-discounted "A" fares will earn QFF points and SC's at the First rate.

I have been looking at Finnair for a trip next year, just checking routes and options. But how can you determine the fare code prior to booking (on the Finnair website?) Finnair say "check your confirmation for the fare code" which is too late.

Thanks. To be honest my concern is less about earning points and credits, and more about ensuring a business class ticket is business class all the way...

as it is not Finnair metal, I dont think you will earn QFF points
The flight is operated by Nordic Regional Airlines (Norra), similar to QantasLink. It's a oneworld affiliate airline, so should be no issues from operating carrier perspective.
 
I think Cathay and Malaysian does this too - these "horizontal" fares where Light/Normal/Flex is completely seperate from the underlying fare class.

There can be only 1 Economy seat left on a flight in full fare Y, and yet you can still choose between these 3 ticket types.

Now that makes sense after I was seeing the same fare class on MH no matter what I selected
