While we taxied for departure this morning on VA0208 ADL-MEL (I just got back from a part-paid-part-redeemed-on-Cathay whirlwind trip to AKL in QSuites), I saw there was a 789 in QF livery parked at Gate 20.

Per checking all the QF 789s on FlightRadar24, it looks like it came in last night from SYD as QF6155. (This appears not to be a regular flight number.)

Anyone got any idea why they'd be moving a widebody to ADL?

Years ago I took this adl-adl flight, albeit on qf 747. Was great fun.

I notice flight radar show it returning much lower and slower than planned to ADL and arriving about 2 hours late.

Yeah, great view of a sunset for those in row A at the right time of the flight, before having to move for others to sit on the window side.
Was mentioned somewhere that QFF are not earned on this flight, a bit of a downer, that one!

Correct. No QFF points or SCs. It is charter flight and origin to destination distance is 0km.

But it would my dream to get a QFd 787 from or to ADL.
Dreamy land, yes, I know.
Got a QFd 767 MEL - ADL years back.
A 767 used to do a QFi domestic hop between ADL and SYD T1. It came in very handy once when I needed to fly to the US for work but I was going to be in ADL for the weekend. Changed my return flight to the QFi one and was checked through QF to UA into SFO! The one and only time I’ve done Int to Int transfer in SYD.

I guess we have to wait and see what comes out of the new lounge that will/has taken the space of the former SQ KF lounge downstairs at ADL airport.
Haven't been there since they tore down the former terminal, where the VA lounge now stands, on the int secure area.
Flying either AirNZ or QR direct from ADL to AKL will be the cheapest legal way to see the new terminal, I would say.
They wouldn't have put anything underground, so the new procedure is to go through check in with AirNZ/QR and have document swipe, then dom security, then downstairs to have a sticky beak look, go through immi and int security, pass the DF area, and visit the lounge, (when it opens), and upstairs to the glassed in zoo, that is really the ADL dom terminal, just that its now closed off so only int pax can use it.
My aim is to see what it looks like, ie, the ougoing int side.
On the coming back, I have done it twice with AirNZ AKL - ADL, both when they used the 777, and used the new modern arr terminal.
Bit sad now that they are only using their 321neo.
To sum up, its great to see that at least ADL has some int flightts, even if its not QF anymore.

Just noticed that a B787 is scheduled to operate SYD-PER on 19 February as QF331 but doesn't look like it's for the Antarctica charter?

If its for sale, would be a good way to try it out, for those who want to get from SYD - PER, on a 787 dom pax on an int flight, if its sold as available.
Saw the bit about AJ saying all the 330 had to be put onto flights on int sectors, as it will take time for their 380 to come back into flying condition.
So QF9/QF10 on that day still flies, haven't checked the date, for the tag MEL - PER/vv.
Of late they have stopped the 787 in PER, and then put pax on a 737 onto MEL.
