One of them that sticks out is SYD-BKK r/t:
  • Y: $875
  • W: $2527
  • J: $3999

With a differential like that between W and J, it does make it hard to choose W here. (Keep in mind these are return prices!) FWIW SYD-SIN has a similar pricing for Y and W, but J is just a shade over $6000.

Oddly enough, there are no F fares on offer.

Surprised they offer these prices in late april when they'll still be catching up post volcano....

Oh I wish I could take advantage of this but I don't think that the budget permits.

That is just about a perfect airfare for a Oneworld carrier.

I wish there was a way I could book these airfares for my next return from SE Asia in October but I am not sure of the dates I want to return around Easter next year.

Thanks for posting this: deciding whether to go to Europe on Finnair or BA. Have to travel to Switzerland and Sweden, so Finnair is probably more convenient.

Do you think this volcano drama will make seats more exy for the rest of the year or cheaper? My thoughts were that they would have to put on some good sales in order to attract more customers, catch up on losses and fill the void refunding customers that can no longer travel will leave...

In a few weeks, the effects of the ash (should) be gone. If it isn't, then there will be more to worry about than just whether there will be sales on later this year.

I don't think it will affect fares for later this year. It's something that will be written off from the accounts and business will return to normal. Over the longer term, it could make flights more expensive as airlines will need to factor in the costs into their everyday fares (where commercially it makes sense).

Things like major safety scares or airline strikes are the ones that increase pressure on fare discounts.
