With the end of the JSA, Australians are now able to joint BEAC. While the majority of the long haul award flights attract some significant fuel fines there can be some good value, especially within AUS.

As an example.

Looking at what is available today for next week, I can see a rtn from BNE to MEL for 30,000 avios and GBP17 (the same flights with QF are 48,000QFF and $72.90).

BA also allow purchase of points and are currently running a promo buy 24,000 avios and get 7,000 free for GBP399 so the trip from BNE to MEL as above works out to be GBP416 which is about $650 at GBP0.64:1$. What is quite good about this is that you can have a family account with up to 7 people (I think) where you can pool points so everyone can buy. Purchases are limited to 24,000 pts (not including bonuses) per year.

Internationally I cant see much difference between BA and QF in terms of price, it would appear that BA are marginally cheaper (55,000 avios and GBP300 vs 64,000QFF plus whatever taxes) but I have only been able to see Y fares. J and F seem quite hard to come by.

Since when BAEC allows Australian residents to register? I cannot wait to get my BAEC Gold to move my real Aussie address.

I don't believe it's open to Australians at present, the same old message on application is still popping up:

I managed to register a dummy account with an Australian address yesterday. Clearly ymmv on this one then.

Being a dual citizen, it's not a problem for me.

I assume you're talking about Business class, as $650 for return Y doesn't seem particularly good value ;)

Might have to switch my Blue account to an Aussie address, not that it matters, have no points whatsoever.

I used IE (I know but I was at work). I will try again this evening.

I should also add, I was on the BA Taiwan website rather than the aussie one.

Correct. Y is about half price (taxes stay the same but pts are halved).
