Flight information | Airbus-A380 | British Airways

Great news for those travelling to South Africa & perhaps thinking of booking a One World Multi- trip or Round the World Fare, as from February 2014, BA will commence flying an A380 on the London Heathrow To Johannesburg leg & Vice versa.

Having recently flown this route with BA, I thought that BA are have developed a good solid route for themselves & their refurbished B747's are certainly very good I thought IMHO. Swanky in fact.

Hardly Surprising, as BA do fly up to three Flights per day between the two cities & is certainly a growing route it would seem.

Its really interesting to see that BA are really "Spreading their wings", for the routes chosen by BA to fly their new A380's. So far three routes announced & three completely different continents.

I welcome any comments or observations.

JNB is a high and hot airport. I wonder if there will be reduced loads on departure?

I know slightly off-topic, ss there a OW flight from JNB to South America? Thinking a minimalist RTW AUS-JNB (side trip to Botswana to see family) then across to South America, dash of skiing in Ushuaia, before heading back home would be nice.

MH used to do it.

Unfortunately not. There are no oneworld options between South Africa and South America.

The loss of the MH JNB-S America service was a real shame.

MH pulled out of Africa completely! Perhaps with LAN and TAM combining they may cross the South Atlantic to complete the loop?

An even greater shame was the demise of the VC-10, which was specifically designed designed for BOAC to use at Johannesburg and Nairobi airports due to their high and hot natures. Also the fastest commercial plane other than than the Concorde to cross the Atlantic. Perhaps Airbus should release a version of the A380 with rear quad-engined T-Tail?
(I just bought my plane obsessed daughter a second-hand framed photo of a BOAC VC-10)

None direct.

BA via lhr is probably the "easiest".

Do IB serve JNB? If so that'd open options for connecting to IB or LA services ex-MAD.

Or thinking about it, QF via SYD to SCL would be s not unreasonable (although long) option.

Just what every 22 month old girl wants, a portrait of a JNB busting BOAC VC10.

So they don't even do JNB anymore? That's even worse than I thought!

No, was looking at it the other day, now that MH will be flying from DRW, going via KUL is just as attractive as PER, and certainly less mucking around going between International and Domestic.

There was an Air France A380 parked up at JNB when we arrived at 1630 yesterday so the BA A380 will presumably operate the late night departure to LHR similar to AF?
