I realise that a lot of community-type websites use the name networks/sources to run ads to get revenue, but I've seen on two tonight alone that they were advertising $435 SYD - MEL VA Saver fares. Surely this has to be some kind of glitch in the advertising system that they're using...?

Included one as an example.

Maybe they got J and Y pricing mixed up. Where did you see it, and what was the outcome if you clicked on the ad?

Macrumors was one place I know I remember seeing it, also in a couple of others as well. Banner took you through to a sales promotion page on the VA website advertising $85 & $95 fares. Hence the surprise at seeing $435 flight banners.

I notice that they like to use what you have last searched for as well. However it never gives me prices, just says 'At attractive prices'

I've noticed this too. I was searching for CBR -MEL flights for a certain date and the cheapest available fare on VA was ~ $180. Then after leaving the website I had an ad for web jet pop up saying CBR-MEL fares were available for that same day for $109 (which of course they weren't...)
