Hi,

Just booked a flight MEL-LAX-YYZ ; YYZ-ORD-LAX-MEL. All flights are QF# with LAX-YYZ on Westjet and YYZ-ORD-LAX on two seperate AA operated flights. Does my QFF Silver count for any additional baggage and if so, is it only on the QF operated legs?

Thanks

You only get the QF silver allowance on QF metal (but you get that for connecting flights as well, so for example MEL-LAX-YYZ assuming you're not staying overnight at LAX).

On AA you will get the oneworld Ruby allowance or the QF ticket (non silver), whichever is higher.

On WS you'll get the QF ticket (non-silver). No perks at all on this one.

Damn I was hoping if they were QF marketed on the same PNR throughout I'd get my silver allowance (3 bags) instead of 1. thanks

Unfortunately it's in black and white you don't.

Note: any additional Frequent Flyer checked baggage allowance you may be eligible for, does not apply to QF codeshare services operated by carriers other than Qantas, QantasLink and Emirates and is not coughulative.

You can try to sweet talk them, the problem is their system will charge you for the extra bags from the US all the way to Australia, even though QF won't charge you. Their system won't let them charge you just for the domestic leg.

I have had success asking them if I can just pay to LAX because from there I get it included, and it did work (they waived the charge completely because of my QF status), but it is a gamble I wouldn't count on it.

The QF ticket is 1x 32Kg and the AA oneworld Ruby is 1x23Kg so the ticket is in fact more.

Thanks - I suppose I'm up for excess charges then...oh well. I guess I was hoping bags would be checked through...
