Bankwest Transaction account [General Discussion]

i havent tried closing this account yet, but every time ive closed a bank account it has been akin to pulling teeth. they virtually follow you out the door rabbiting on about what a terrible mistake you are making. It requires great resolution to sternly ignore their protestations.

Do it at lunch/peak times. You might have to queue for a few minutes more, but they wont spend as much time hassling. FWIW, I closed mine on Friday and teller gave up the sales job pretty quickly once my polite disinterest was apparent.

I closed mine yesterday at Westfield Chatswood. Walked up to the desk, politely put the card down and asked for the account to be closed. She asked for photo ID which I provided, then asked whether I had received the bonus points as yet !? After sheepishly saying "yes", she cancelled the card there and then, and asked whether there was anything else she could do to help me. I replied in the negative and made a hasty retreat from the store!;)

Does anyone have any other suggestions for making 1c payments now that it appears that Optus have put a stop to it?
I don’t have an account with Telstra but if they have a service for say $5-$10 per month I would be willing to use it as a means of making these payments. The same goes for other telecommunications providers.
Any other possible products/services that allow small payments online?

You're more than welcome to pay my Telstra bill :P

I know it was said with tongue in cheek but that's not a silly as it sounds. If I can't find an alternative in the next few days I may take you up on the offer. 0.2c per point is a bargain buy!

Opened the account on 19 May and deposited $2000 in May, June, July.
eStatement appeared today (19/5 to 18/8) but no 10,000 QFF Points.
Number is listed and transaction points have been coming across OK.

Should they appear on the statement ?

I did April, May and June - 10K came in early August.

Looking into my crystal ball, I can see a flood of Telstra bills "for sale" ;)
I can see a flood of minimum payment rules added to online payment facilities - wanna pay less? You'll need to call up!

How much does each payment cost the vendor? Is it flat rate, say 25¢ ?

It definitely costs them more than 1c to process it.

In all seriousness, if anyone needs a Telstra account to pay I am fine to give limited people my billing account number but I'll xfer the funds you pay into it back at the end of each month.

Thanks for this offer to let me pay your account. If it's no trouble id like to do it for a limited period until I find an alternative. We can work out something regarding transferring the money back at the end of the month but all the same I am also happy to incur a circa $15 per month cost as a way of getting 7500pts. Could you send me a private message about it as your inbox seems to be full.

Cheers

Ok, I've looked back 25 pages and i can't see the macro anywhere, so if anyone has the post number iwth it in, as opposed to the actual macro, I wouldn't mind hearing from them.....

OK, has anyone cancelled other than by going into a branch, e.g. by letter/fax/email/secure message?

I found it a few days ago. Search for imacro and Firefox or just google for the add-on.

Has anyone gone about paying bills through Auspost (Postbillpay)? Doesn't seem to be an exclusion in the T&Cs..

Unlike most banks BW does not kill your DBMC when you obtain the platinum version.

Anyone using a normal DBMC request an upgrade to platinum through online banking (send them a message). Once you've got it you now can make 100 transactions per day.

Is bankwest really STUPID (come on we know they are stupid for the 5 points per transaction) and not enforcing one of their own rules? number 3 this comes up when I go to apply through the internet banking website

I agree that:

  • I am over 18 years old.
  • I can deposit a minimum of $2,000 per month (e.g. salary).
  • I do not already have a Bankwest Qantas Transaction Account.
  • I have read and accept the Privacy Statement and Consent, which includes consent to Bankwest electronically verifying my identitywith a credit reporting body so that they can provide an assessment based on matching the information I provide with any credit files they hold.

I'm currently paying my health insurance 1c at a time.

What is DBMC?

(It's too early on a Sunday morning for me to try to decipher that)
