Excellent, not as bad as we thought then! I'm sure I can make 10 payments per day at a couple of other places but even 40/day isn't a total loss (and we have multiple Optus accounts).

200 down to 40 is a big loss with only 1 Optus account.

I can't recall the answer to this one but what was the outcome of you request a new card because the old card is damaged? Do they send a new card complete with new number etc or simply an exact copy of the "damaged" card?

IIRC if you ask for a new one because the old one is damaged, it is a "carbon copy" of your old one. Same number and expiry which defeats the purpose of getting another one. If it is lost, they would deem that as being a risk (for theft and whatnot) and then the old one would be cancelled, for security reasons. The new one would have new details which needs to be activated like getting a new card for the first time. This is my understanding. I think they have clued up on this though.

I did ask in an innocent manner about having two cards of the same type activated at the same time - their default response was that it was not allowed.

It's already been mentioned a few times in the thread... you go into a branch and ask to be either upgraded to Platinum or downgraded to Standard.
You need to keep your card in the meantime while you're waiting for the new one to arrive to ask them not to cancel it.
Voila. Second card arrives, first card does not get cancelled.

Have you got an Optus imacro working?

My (somewhat recent) experience is that they automatically cancel the first card .. because they will ask you what happened to it.. unless you have a good reason as to why you want/need a second card. What was the reason?

Just call them and ask for a standard card because you can't afford to deposit $4K each month, or a platinum card because you want the insurance benefits of the platinum card.

They may ask you to call back after you receive your new card (to cancel the old card). Don't.

The worst they can do is cancel your first card a few days after you get the second. They may forget to do that though, so you could end up with both cards working.

If you can, visit a branch, because that seems to the most successful method for keeping the old card working. If you can't, then try calling last thing on a Friday night. It may improve your chances of keeping the old card working.

Do you think the wait clock starts on the first or the tenth payment?

Is it possible the wait time is 5:00:01 and the 8:01 am attempt was at 8:01:00, and failed because of that, while the 2:01 am attempt was at 14:01:01 and succeeded for that reason.

If possible try to repeat after 5 hours and 30 seconds, then 5 hours and 15 seconds, 5 hours and 10 seconds, then 5 hours and 5 seconds and see which attempt fails.

Unfortunately, even with a 5 hour wait, it will still be a maximum of 40 payments per day, until the TIO puts a stop to this.

Yes. I wonder if Optus might relent, if you told them you'd be moving your services to Telstra (or somewhere else), because Telstra do not restrict the number of payments they accept.

If you can't get iMacro working, Lastpass can be used to fill in all the account and credit card data.

Then you just need to press the buttons, and paste your email address if you want the receipt emailed. When you press the Yes button to make another payment, the payment page will load with all the data entered already, making repeat payments much quicker.

I should have been more clear, I'm talking about 3rd and 4th cards - already have two.

I've gone into a branch before and the same has applied - they can see on the system that you already have one of the "existing" cards and the dilemma occurs. I might try the branch option again though...

I'm not sure how thorough they are in actually looking closely in the system. I have 2 of each card and my experience is to upgrade is wasn't much more than a couple of clicks of a button to make the switch. The downgrade was a bit more as they seemed not to know how to do it. Not sure why. This was a year ago though so would be interested to hear about more recent experiences.

Edit: Apologies Kangol I see you mentioned your experience was recent. How recent are we talking? Im mulling over whether to try for a 5th card or continue to be satisfied with 4.

Is there someone who will let you open an account in their name, who you trust (e.g. parents), who don't want/need the QFF points, and you don't mind paying the $6 a month account fee, if cycling $2K through the new account each month will affect their pension(s), etc.

That gets you up to two new cards for every new account that's opened.

Personally I think this is costing them money for the 1c payments so why would they relent?

Almost 4 months ago. If I was in your situation I'd be happy with 4, by going for 5 you risk going down to 2.

I know, but I'm talking about maximising opportunities ;)

The risk with trying to get more than 2 cards, is that they might close all but one of your existing cards immediately, and then close the other after a few days, so you end up with just one working card.

By all means try and let us know how you go. I would have thought requesting a different card to the last one issued would be the way to go, but who knows.
