Note I have removed the 3 other threads started on this topic and moved this thread to the Qantas Frequent Flyer Program forum as it is really about method of payment for the FF award "taxes" rather than about a specific credit card program or travel insurance.

When you say no insurance what do you mean? That you haven't qualified with the payments or there is absolutely no insurance included?

I know with my NAB gold visa there is a qualification requirement to pay for half of the travel expenses using the card to get insured (if my memory is working properly). So for a points booking and with no other prebooked expenses then I would expect paying the taxes would qualify. Of course as I'm not sure exactly what you mean this is all just wild speculation.

Wife had NAB standard card I believe no insurance when booked w/ my Qantas FF points (I found out) BUT with my Qantas FF Amex Travel Ins covered. BUT cannot unbook and rebook using my Amex (may lose flights) Seems only way out is to pay her Travel Insurance

I suggest the only thing you can do is accept the situation on this occasion, buy the travel insurance and don't make the mistake again.

Unfortunately some of the best lessons are learnt the hard way.

Are you traveling together? Is your wife a supplementary card holder. Again I'm only going off my memory of nab gold card but pretty sure family traveling together are covered. I also thought that supplementary card holders might be covered.

My understanding is OP bought his trip with an Amex card that provided travel cover.
His wife used a NAB card that did not provide travel cover.
Obviously there is no way Qantas will reverse the transaction.

Answer is to buy separate travel insurance for wife's trip. After all you would not risk a USA trip without travel insurance.

Lesson learnt.

The first point is to check the terms of the insurance of the OPs card in relation to people traveling with the OP. My NAB card travel insurance covers people traveling with me.

Of course, I would also suggest that the OP doesn't rely on card travel insurance. And hence buys separate insurance anyway.
