Hi All...I flew back from Beijing to Hong Kong yesterday on Hong Kong Airlines flight that was codeshare with Hainan Airlines. Just wanting to share my experience as a WP.

On the way to Beijing, everything was smooth, Virgin Velocity Platinum card accepted(must be because the same crew do the Virgin Australia checkin for flights back to Aus) priority checkin, boarding free access to row 3(on the a330 for HK airlines it’s actually row 31). Lounge access at Club Autus.

On the way back to Hong Kong however, the checkin staff didn’t really recognised the card, I lined up in the priority boarding and the lady at the checkin counter said I didn’t qualify but she checked me in anyway, I asked for a priority luggage tag, once again no, but she let it slide...I think I was annoying her.

Next Stop the HNA lounge...the lady at the counter had a trainee badge on(I was prepared for more no’s)so I showed boarding pass which had my velocity no on it btw, and my velocity platinum card, she said no, I then pulled up the lounge access website and showed the Beijing T2 access being the HNA lounge...which is very particular..must be velocity Platinum and on a Hong Kong Airlines flight to Hk from Beijing, she called a supervisor and the supervisor said ah yes you qualify but asked to take a photo of my velocity card to inform staff, the Supervisor said I was one of the first to access on the new arrangement, and into the lounge I went...they had one of my favourite spirits at the free pouring stand..Hennessy VSOP..

We flew this week HKG-OOL on HK Airlines in Biz Class, booked on Virgin website as Virgin codeshares.

Had no issues at check-in at HKG, they gave us lounge passes, and security line VIP passes, and the new Lounge there in HKG was pretty good I must say.

Lie flat seats, a little short for my liking as I am pretty tall, but slept fine.

However if you did not book as Virgin Codeshare, they might not get it, or recognise it, I suppose.

I did have issues with them booking 2 sets together in middle aisle - they do that 2 together and 2 apart deal and I wanted row 17 centre.

They ignored several emails on this, so got a bit more aggressive, and they capitulated and also gave us $600 in vouchers for being tardy, which I used for several litres of Boxed 15 year old Chivas Regal bottles ordered in flight, so pretty happy with that. :D
