Be doing a trip to US with Mrs Lime Aug/Sept 2012, QF SYD/LAX/SYD, however internally will be doing LAX/MIA/NYC/LAS/LAX with AA, all in J, how many QFF points would we get from AA flights? I'm Q SG and wife is SS. Is there a better way to get more points like stop over in DFW? or take a different route?.

QF points earning for AA:

Frequent Flyer - Earning Points - Fly - Airline Partners

You just need to enter a dummy booking with your routing in AA to get the miles. As QF SG you will both earn 50% bonus status points on underlying miles, and of course 25% bonus miles for business cabin.

Can I ask why you are flying Business class when there are so many plentiful status runs available from coast to coast? Aside from the unerlying status credits, the status run will get you there in first Class, net you more miles due to the more inefficient route, as well as a higher cabin bonus (50% instead of 25%). If time is an issue then of course a status run may not suit.

"all in J,"

I like to see how you can do that on most domestic AA flight numbers. (J only available on 3 class and for specific flights on specific routes such as LAX-JFK/MIA_ALX).

Please enlighten me with any suggestions how I can get more points, in 1st class like to see that..

If you are flying on a Circle pacific fare brought through QF in J it will automatically book you into first class on AA if a 2 class plane.

Not doing circle pacific, going SYD/LAX return direct on Q in J.

As serfty states, there are only a couple of routes with 3 class seating. Avoid these ie LAX-JFK, MIA-LAX and you will be in F. Even if your fare isn't Circle Pacific and is booked through QF it is possible to get the AA flight nos on those internal tickets. If you are flying QF codeshare flight nos even in F, QF will only credit you J SC/ points if booked as part of a J return on QF flight nos.

But these-MIA/NYC/LAS/LAX -are all 2 class flights and AA wouldn't let you book in J.The only way to get J points is to book through QF on the QF codeshares as the Princess says. And that is a real no no around these parts. And if booking through AA the LAX-MIA should be at least LAX-DFW-MIA if not LAX-DFW-TPA-MIA.
That is because if you fly LAX-MIA direct in F-120SCs,LAX-DFW-MIA=210SCs but LAX-DFW-TPA-MIA=270SCs but if you flew LAX-MIA direct and were on a QF J code or AA J it would only be-80SCs.

I see better to book with AA.com direct and go via DFW, Mrs lime said she wouldn't mind couple days in Dallas anyway. So how many QFF and Status points would we each receive? (me SG her SS). I'd expect the fare to be about USD$4k each.

So better if LAX/DFW/MIA/DFW/NYC/LAS/LAX

or more points going NYC/LAS back through DFW?

LAX/DFW/MIA/DFW/NYC/LAS/LAX in F gives you 630 SCs
LAX/DFW/MIA/DFW/NYC/DFW/LAS/LAX gives you 720 SCs.
Doesn't matter what your current status everyone doing those sectors in F gets the same.
PS for DFW-NYC and return go to LGA rather than JFK-closer to Manhattan and save $15-20 in taxi fares.

Excellent advise thanks.

I'll book say 3 months out.

I just book instant upgrade.

No problem booking on AA.com with CC, just use dummy USA location?

Are the points auto credited to QFF? or is there something I need to do when booking?

Just put your QFF number in the booking.Generally AA gets them to QFF pretty fast.

A trap for new players: keep all boarding passes as you may need them. My last round of AA flights ( mixture of A/P) posted disc whY/ J/F to my QF account. All sorted when I sent the boarding passes in.

Yeah had that problem after recent trip SYD/HNL/SYD, lucky Mrs.lime kept boardng passes had to copy send in, all points in now.

When time comes to book and pay do I use USA location or is OZ one Ok on AA.com site.

That is because if you fly LAX-MIA direct in F-120SCs,LAX-DFW-MIA=210SCs

Just be a little careful booking LAX-DFW-MIA or MIA-DFW-LAX.Make sure to get different flight nos.
In october this year i got 210SCs for LAX-DFW-MIA (flight nos 2400 and 2525) and 120SCs for
MIA-DFW-LAX (flight no 2419) because 2 flights had the same no.
Another flight to avoid is MIA-ORD-LAX (flight no 889)ScreenHunter 06 2011-12-11.jpg
