Have decided to consolidate to one CC and want the one that will provide best overall QFF points without ridiculous annual fees.
Main usage will be private only, no business charges.
Expected monthly spend between 3-4k
At least 1 domestic flight per month.
At least 2 international flights per annum (9 hours plus).

Would prefer uncapped in case spending spikes in months where int airfares are booked plus other unforeseen expense spikes.

Thanks in advance for advice.

I did a comparison back in December, and NAB Qantas Platinum card, ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum and Westpac Earth Platinum came out on top for my spend profile. (I've got a comparison spreadsheet if you care for the detail... PM me).

I don't know what ridiculous fees are? But at $89 the Woolies EDR card earns at 1:1 and the price is hard to beat! Its uncapped and pretty much just works.

Otherwise, you can get better earns with a high end Citi card, but they are likely to cost 200-300 or more per year

I liked Amex Plat, But at $900.00 pa it's a bit steep. Was worth it to me or annual travel insurance which normally costs me more than that , but with the reduction in benefits Mrs GPH is moving to QFF Amex. Same 1.5 points per $ spend and half the annual fee

Woolworths/Qantas Credit card is a good value credit card at $89 a year.
Woolworths
A bonus 16,000 Qantas Frequent Flyer points[SUP]1[/SUP] offer.
Earn 1 Qantas Frequent Flyer point per $1 spent on eligible purchases[SUP]2[/SUP].
Earn 2 Qantas Frequent Flyer points per $1 spent on selected Qantas products and services4
No points capping - unlimited points earned on eligible purchases[SUP]2[/SUP].

I am a member of a professional association (APESMA), and they grant me a an AMEX with 1:1 once you register it for QFF points, no annual fee 55days interest free. The Qantas AMEX is also the same I think.

Without a clear strategy to earn and fly with a particular group of airlines you may not get very far.
Qantas is the market leader with about 8 million members and Virgin is second with about 3 million members.
Qantas has reduced its international due to losses so your two international flights a year are getting difficult unless you are happy with Jet Star and economy redemptions. If that is the case then Woolworths EDR, Jet Star,Qantas Credit Union,HSBC and Bank West all have credit cards that have merit in earning a point a dollar on Visa or MasterCard.

Yeah work out a travel goal (i.e. 'I want to fly J with my wife to LA next year') and stick to it and then we can help you - there are too many variables otherwise!

For QFF points I use a combination of the Earth Amex and EDR M/C when AX not accepted.

The Earth Amex earns at 1.5 (2.5 for QF spend) per $ and the M/C at 1 per $.

Also note the Earth has a relatively good inbuilt TI component when paying with it.

Posted on a wing and a prayer ...

If you are looking to earn Velocity points rather than Qantas FF points (i.e. you would rather fly with VA than QF), I would recommend the Citibank Virgin High-Flyer Platinum Visa. It earns 1.25 points:$1 uncapped. The Velocity Gold Amex earns the same but many places don't take Amex and if they do they may charge a surcharge.

For both cards, look out for big sign-on bonus offers they are usually offered a few times a year (15 - 30,000 points). This usually covers the annual fee. Unless you are worried about your credit score/history there is no reason you can't take apply for an Amex for the sign-on bonus even if you don't use it.

I believe the OP is after QFF points, whether recommended or not:

Your card might, but the standard Earth offering is for the M/C to earn at 0.5 QFF point for each $1 spent.

Platinum earth Amex earns 1.5 the M/C 0.5. That's why you have the WWEDR card as well.

That's why my posted included this line:

Thanks for the input. To clarify further prefer QF points as I am WP. Overseas personal expense travel goal is to do JASA flights with my partner.
The EDR at $89 appears reasonable given that my expediture will be above $20,000 per annum. Looking through the posts it appears a combination of Amex and EDR may be the best option. Would this be a correct assumption?

Don't know if it's actually good value, but the Qantas CU Plat VISA. Also offering bonus points.

I can't believe no-one has recommended the citibusiness Gold. Best qff earning card in Australia that isn't Amex, 1.25pts per $.

Annual fee is $149, halved ATM to 72.50

Spentan yes you are correct about Citi Business with that earn rate on Visa at 1.25 points to QFF per dollar.
Like Serfty I go Amex Ultimate for any Qantas spend for 2.5 points to QFF per dollar.

Ah, I called up Citibank and advised that I've been looking at other cards etc and snagged myself 2 bonus pts per $ for a total of 3.25pts per $ lol.

But with all the suggestions of earth/etc/wwedr, I don't see any reason to get these over the CB Gold.

Amex Ultimate for QF purchases in Australia*
Amex Plat Charge for all other Australian purchases
Citibank Business Gold Visa where Amex not accepted and for Holiday Inn/Crowne Plaza in Australia (5 x points)
HSBC Platinum Visa for all overseas transactions. (2 points per $)^

These are my current cards for QF earn. The Plat charge will probably go next year after the last of my points trips utilizing the current travel insurance ends.

* The Ultimate card had the fee waived because of the Plat Charge Card
^ The HSBC card puts the 3% commission fee on overseas transactions as a separate line so be wary. I get this and the actual charge reimbursed by my business.
