With all these changes recently to multiple banks for Qantas Direct earn cards, I'm trying to work out what the best is.

I've got
ANZ FF Platinum (Old one, with 1 Visa only) $195/PA
AMEX Platinum Credit with Direct Earn $295/PA with 1 domestic flight, which I think is worth about $140 ish .. (SYD-BNE RTN)

With the new change, my AMEX is only 1.25 per $1. I used to like 1.50 per $1.

and ANZ is 1.00 per $1 up to $2,500 but has Qantas Bonii (2.00 per $1)
I got offered the AMEX addons, which I got, but I never activated them, as I will be up for a $295 fee instead of $195 next year by agreeing to T&C. That AMEX is only 1 for 1 and makes my visa 0.75 per $1

What do others use for maximising Qantas points with low annual fees? And are you in the same boat as me, thinking of changing?

After recently cancelling my Earth Plat (was 3:1 QFF for a while and then reverted back to 1.5 at $295/yr), I now hold an Amex Platinum and ANZ Visa. Both are free after threatening to cancel and take my business elsewhere.

H is a slightly tangential side topic on this:

When booking a redemption flight through a credit card's own service (Usually mychoice travel or similar), I am under the impression that you receive normal status credits and FF points.
I have just done this however when looking at the booking on my qantas page, it does not allow me to upgrade this ticket.

Now, I have ooked Red-Edeals before and never got this type of screen. The screen I get now says that the reason you cannot upgrade is due to one of the following reasons:

An upgrade is not available on this itinerary due to one or more of the following reasons. The flights are:
  • not operated by Qantas
  • restricted or heavily discounted airfare (for example, Red e-Deal flight)
  • a Classic Award or an Any Seat Award purchased with Frequent Flyer points
  • do not have an upgradeable class
  • a prize ticket or a promotional offer
  • part of a group booking. Contact a Qantas Office for an upgrade
  • a voucher for future travel
  • already flown
OK, so the redemption flights (Through ANZ and one with Macquarie) are booked via My choice travel nd are booked as an "O" class...so heavily discounted. I understand this, but usually even red-e-deals can be upgraded (Just for more points usually).

Does anyone have anyexperience with this? I will try the rock-up-to-qantas-club-with-big-smile trick again, but who knows...
Does this also work with booking business class flights? Do you get full status and points etc when booking redemptions via credit card points (Not QFF points)? Cos that would be cool...and I will stop siphoning all my points into my QFF account.

On another side note: I called qantas to find out where my jetstar codeshare points were, and they said that it takes 4 weeks at the moment, for some unknown reason to them...Weird.

Beware - ANZ are dropping Visa to 1.00 per $2 with no limits. Let me know if you find something better.

I still have my ANZ Gold at $1 for 1 up to 2500 points, i heard about the changes on the cards on AFF but ANZ have said nothing to me about it yet.

Ditto here (though I'm not the most vigilant reader of correspondence from the bank)

They sent me AMEX dual card and said I can keep the 2,500 for $1:1 on Visa until next anniversary date of card if I activate it. I never activated it. Still milking it for what its worth and getting 2:$1 on Qantas transactions.

Some red e-deals can be upgraded - as long as that red e-deal does not book into a "Deep Discount" booking class.

I have seen "red e-deals" that book in to S or V classes, however, these were for international flights, not domestic.

Point redemption upgrades have not normally been available on O class fares since May 25 2005.

This is the same for N and Q class. Recently E class and the award flight classes were added to the "Deep Discounted" fare definition in the T&C's.

So does this also preclude you from upgraded just prior to flying? ie: at the QP desk? I have had more luck doing that with my flights than online, but does an O class fare completely preclude you from doing that even if there are spare seats in J? (Domestic only I'm talking about)

An O class ticket cannot be upgraded either in advance or at the QC on departure.

Here's the deal: (From the T&C's)
'Restricted Fare' means any Qantas fare ticketed in E, N, O, P, Q, U, X or Z booking classes, which includes some Qantas Red e-Deals;
16.1.3 Flight Upgrades are not available when travelling on Restricted Fares, Codeshare Flights or Award Flights. Otherwise, Flight Upgrades may be requested only on a paid, confirmed and ticketed Qantas domestic or international flight booking on a service operated by Qantas, with a Qantas (QF) flight number, in accordance with these Terms and Conditions.
For about 4 weeks this year, qantas had a 'promotion' enabling some of these upgrades but that was a very unusual exception.

Damn...That really sucks. Maybe I'll try my luck anyway, and see if they nice people at the desk will let me anyway! Will report bck if its successful or not, as I have 2 flights in te next couple of weeks which are points redemptions from credit cards (ie not my QFF points) or red-edeals...

I spose it doesn't make a difference if you are SG anyway, does it...
