Hi all,
I've been looking through the forums for advice on a new QFF CC, but i'm a little overwhelmed of how many there are... Some thoughts would be appreciated!

i'm looking for a credit card that will earn the highest qantas frequent flyer points. We spend about $50,000pa and pay out the balance monthly. So the interest rate is of little interest.

We currently have the westpac earth platinum amex/mastercard set. It's fine, but the points/$ were downgraded some time ago. A pair of linked cards including an amex with travel insurance would be ideal, but i'm open to suggestions. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

thanks for your help.
cheers,
Dusty

I totally agree with you!

If you spend quite a bit in the Major Supermarketsl/Petrol Stations..... there is a couple of good ones for that, ie The David Jones Platinum Amex....2.25 points per dollar spent at the Major Supermarkets/petrol stations.

Spend elsewhere the card isn't very good though.

Woolworths Everyday Rewards MasterCard.

Probably one of the best for Mastercard spends 1 point per dollar spent Everywhere.....most other Credit cards will only give you 0.5 points per dollar spent on visa/mastercard.

HSBC own this product on behalf of Woolies.

If you want to stay with Westpac and you want purely Qantas point, the Earth Black has a decent return.
The Amex nets 1.5 Qantas points and the MC gets you 0.625 points.
If you already have the platinum I would call Westpac and get them to upgrade you to the Black while only charging you the Platinum yearly fee (which is around $125 per year). They have done this in the past for many customers.

If you dont want to get to many credit cards in your wallet :-)

Woolworths Everyday Rewards MasterCard.

I agree. For an annual fee of only $89, they give 1 point per $1, and there's no annual points cap.

The downside can be that they sometimes give unrealistically low credit limits to start, and never ever use it to pay one's quarterly BAS payments to the ATO or your card will be cancelled.

The Bankwest Platinum has some nice features for a little bit extra including travel and purchase insurance (travel up to 6 months per trip) as well as very good forex rates.

Frequent Flyer Credit Cards

I use the NAB Qantas Platinum Card because it came with our homeloan basically, points return are quite good, 1.5 fopr amex and 1 for visa, additionally if you purchase qantas products with it theres bonuses attached. We pay our ATO bills with the amex adn theres travel insurance for pre-travel spends of $500 or more.

I used to have the evryday rewards card which was excellent, however I no longer use it becasue of the above.

On top of all that I have a 28 degrees mastercard which must have saved me a absoulte fortune travelling. Unfortunately they have recently added a fee for cash withdrawals, but still the best card for OS Online purchases such as Paypal, Amazon etc

If I was sticking with QF and your level of spend, would be trying to minimise fee costs. Suggest the NAB QF premium Amex/Visa card which the $250pa fee is waived if tied with your mortgage. The Visa is garbage though and you should pick up a Visa/MC earning a FF point /$ spend.
Whilst the WWEDR MC card is good with the $89 fee usually waived upon request at renewal time, I would go for the Citi Signature card taking up a free for life offer now extended a month for the third time to end of February. The Signature card would likely give you the option down the track of sending points to Citi Rewards (SQ,VA & CX option) rather than only QF.

If you want to maximise your points, you will need a few credit cards. I use:

David Jones AMEX card for 2.25 points / $ at major petrol stations and supermarkets
Bank branded AMEX for 1.5 points / $ (don't use the linked Visa or MC)
Any Visa or MasterCard that gives 1/1 - Woolies / HSBC / Jetstar / Bankwest

Love your work everyone, fantastic info!!!

quick question before i narrow the list down. What is the credit limit like on the Woolworth card? i currently have $13k on our westpac platinum cards and have come very close with big purchases on a few occasions- even though we pay it out monthly.
