Hiya,
So I'm hoping I can get a little bit of advice from everyone about this. I'm looking to try and get the best earn card for myself.
Currently I have
- Mastercard with a $2k limit
- ANZ Qantas Visa with a $500 limit
My earnings do vary from year to year (as I'm a university student) though tend to be around the $25K - $30K mark. I tend to put most of my purchases through my cards which tends to be around or over the $10K mark.
I've found the service which I've received from ANZ to be very slack and is sort of making me feel like I should move my business (I hate useless service).
Currently I am a member of both Qantas and Air NZ FF programs. Qantas has about 21K points (was at around 32K though used some) and Air NZ about $200 airbucks.
Flying I tend to use Qantas for my domestic flights as I earn FF points (1k) though since I haven't done much overseas travel I can't comment on that. Though the holiday I'm on at the moment I have used Air NZ/Star Alliance (hence why I have so many airbucks).
What I'm looking for is the best earning rate for my situation. My intention is to use them for a small trip in the future or perhaps some upgrades
I've found the following options for direct earn
- Globalplus Amex - 1.5 airbucks per $150
- Globalplus V/MC - 1 airbuck per $150
- ANZ Qantas V - 1 per $1 up to $10K
There are lots of non-direct earn cards in NZ, though all charge a fee of around $10 per conversion, minimum conversion of around $50 (or their point equivalent).
I currently have plans to visit Brisbane later this year and next year I am planning another big trip (not too sure where though South Africa, Israel, Ireland/UK are on the list of maybes). While I know I wouldn't be able to get those trips paid for using my points perhaps an upgrade here and there would be good.
The biggest problem which I have which really hinders my decision (hence why asking for advice) is that QF points don't have a direct dollar value which makes it harder to compare.
Though which alliance would you suggest I align with? Star Alliance or one world? Also, what card would you suggest I get.
I'm currently leaning towards switching my ANZ card to Globalplus Amex.
Thanks
