Brisbane is a royal pain to book premium economy from: so few flights. But, via Sydney just invites pain too.
So I wondered, given Jetstar and other second-tier business-almost class to HKK or BKK or SIN or KIX or NRT or ...
Which one might be a good choice for some Oneworld points spending?
I tend to favour SIN, because almost all the flights I do to LHR/FRA seem to go through there. But I know there are a heap of routes via BKK for FRA, and I imagine HKK has a lot too.
A quick test suggests that a SIN-FRA or HKK-FRA indeed gets you a heap of choices with Cathay or Finnair, some of them bouncing via LHR but some via Helsinki, Few seats, but the points cost in any flight were pretty sharp too: it suggests the loadings on the routes are not high so you can either lock it in cheap, or find seats on dates you want.
Anyone any experiences to share here? Is it as good as it looks, or is direct Q options better in the end? I've done JetStar to KIX, and frankly it sucks: its the old domestic business seat which feels damn lumpy after 5hr, but better than nothing and on sale at some ludicrous prices. If you factor the points cost for premium economy from Sydney in, the points/tax savings look acceptable, for the increase in available non-Q flight options.
(maybe I need to invest in the expert traveller fee and explore that way)
