I am booked on the 747 between Perth and Sydney later this week and the seats have just opened up.

I have moved to 16A (topdeck exit row) but I am now second guessing myself as I can see that 1a is available. What are the pros and cons of these seats and should I be looking elsewhere in the cabin (its looking pretty empty ATM.

thanks

edit. My upgrade request for the return just cleared and I would also appreciate advice on the best J seat in the 737. I currently have 4E selected.

IMO 16A is a pretty good seat on the B747,

Also what type of B737 is it? A 400 or 800?

Thanks harvyk

my apologies, its a B767-300, not the 737 has mentioned in the OP

For a 4 or 5 hour flight, any Skybed is a good seat. I would not be at all concerned about upper deck exit row for a SYD-PER daytime flight. I would be going for lower deck to ensure getting off faster upon arrival. I would be aiming for the back row of the nose section as closest to the door.

For 737, I had middle seats, even if row 4, so I would avoid 4E. If unable to select 4C or 4D then I would be going for Exit row aisle seat.

Ahh, so business class cabin on 767. If its a 1x2x2 then go for an A seat. Otherwise I would be happy with any aisle seat in the middle block (E or F) if traveling alone.

thanks NM,

the only reason that I had for the upper deck is that it is a childhood dream and I dont think that I will ever get to do it again. Perhaps 1A might away me.

The seatmap for the 767 is showing as 2-2-2 of I will stick with 4E. Do you know how the 1-2-2- config shows up on the regular seatmaps?

I have sat in 16A about 10 times in the last year and absolutely love it.
I get rather sad if it's not available.
You could lie down on the floor in front of the seat and still not touch the seat in front (maybe :-)
All of row 16 is great due to the very large amount of extra room but the windows are best due to you having access to the lockers (and a window).
Also, if you're at the window you don't have to climb over the person next to you to get in/out.
16A and 16B do lose a bit of room at take off and landing as that is where the crew seats are.

Take 16 any seat on the B747. But windows are great. The top deck is my favorite as well and select it at every chance. Go on and live the dream and stay up above everyone else.

I always choose 16, prefer the windows. I've done 1A, 4E and pretty much every seat in 16. Being 6ft9in tall I love top deck row 16

Meh, it's only a 4 hour flight at the most, I'm with NM - 4B/23B, 23D or bust - get off the old critter ASAP.

Of course on the new 3 class configurations, while there's really no bad seat in Business with the Skybed Mk II but 3E, 3f, 5B or 5J are the best - they even have additional personal storage space.
