I know this doesn't help but no big loss - Travelex is rubbish.

In Russia.Change enough at the airport to get to your hotel.Rate for us in Moscow was slightly better in town than at the airport-the bank on the departures floor had a slightly better rate than that on arrivals. Our hotel had exactly the same rate as the banks so was more convenient to change there.

This could be an ignorant comment, but from memory roubles are a restricted currency and you can't get them overseas (legally). But of course people do have them around the place.

I couldn't get any Rubles after trying various Australian outlets but I was able to pick them up at Heathrow (Travelex or some such in terminal 5). however Russian hotel rates are reasonable as advised by drron.

I used the first ATM I saw in Moscow. You'll find ATM's (or bankomat as they're called in Russia!) at the airport. I think I got around 31-32 rubles per dollar.

I just discovered 500 rubles stashed away in one of my hiding spots (oops). So if anyone in Brisbane needs some, I can hook you up!

I hit the ATM on arrival in Domodedovo. I only used the ATMs to get cash.

This is good advice for Russia. ATMs are also a good option.
