Hi,

I have been a silver member with qantas for the last 5 years. I generally get to 150 status points away from gold each year. I fly a lot but only cheap seats and mostly between Sydney and Melbourne. I currently need another 150 status points in the next month to get gold. Any tips on how to do this cheaply? Be great to do this for under a thousand dollars.

Thanks

Simon

Hi ozdop, welcome to AFF.

The link above will give you all the information you need. I have learned a lot from AFF over the last year or so, and will be doing a status run Canberra to Hobart to make gold in the next few weeks.

Assuming that you are based in Sydney, Canberra to Hobart JASA (Business class any seat awards) may be your best option. Just checked on qantas.com.au. Canberra to Hobart on 11 Feb, return on 12 Feb (very early) in business class is available for $198.96 plus 32,000 points. This will earn 160 status credits.

Cheap economy flights to Canberra should be available, or earn even more points from more JASA flights

To book JASA flights, select award bookings, then select the Qantas and Jetstar any seat award box.

Hope this helps.

Shane

LAN have a sale SYD-AKL return for $750 in J - should get you 160SC :-)

Now I just hope that JASA's like that remain when I need to use them again next year. Don't like my chances :(

Thanks for the information everyone. Wish I had joined this forum earlier and gained this advice earlier.

Cheers

Simon

It earns 200 status credits if done as CBR-SYD-HBA return.

Hi all, I'm a newbie looking for some advice. I need 150 SC to make silver this year (before april) and was looking at the LAN to auckland j fare. The only problem is the only place I can find the fare for $750 is on webjet. Will I still earn QF points and status credits if I book through webjet?

You would earn them that way but you should be able to find the $750 fare on the LAN web site.

Does flying J with LAN give you access to the Qantas lounges in Syd? Sorry if this is a stupid question
Not really a stupid question as it can vary.

However, flying in J with LAN you use the lounge that LAN designates/contracts for it's Business class passengers. In this case being ex SYD, it is indeed the Qantas lounge.

Thanks Serfty, you made me feel much better. Looking further into this special does make it more irrelevant though with the LAN flight leaving Sydney at 9.00 and returning from Auckland at 6.00am every day so not too much opportunity to utilise the lounges anyway

Hi strait, Thanks for the information. I did indeed find it on the LAN site (when it decided to work!) Booked for feb 17th. Can't wait first time ever flying J anywhere!.

Access to the qantas lounge to! Woohoooo!

Iq actually thinkit is an amazing seat for the shortness of the journey - obviously it is designed for the onward very long flight to Chile...

I'm just about to book my first award j class flight. How are you guys working out how mant staus points you will recieve? If I follow the link instructions-
(How do I book a j any seat award) link.
Trying to work out if I gain more from Syd-Mel-HB return or Syd-CBR-HB return? Other option for me would be J Syd-ADL return as I need to go there for work in the next couple of weeks anyway.

Thanks
