Business or PE to EU with stop overs. May 2014

looking to fly to Europe next year with 3 others. I have about 135,000 QFF points but only on Bronze

route we were thinking was:

Mel - Singapore - Paris (staying couple nights in each destination before flying out)
or
Mel - Dubai - Paris

while on the way back
Rome - Singapore - Melb
Milan - Dubai - Melb

I saw a deal on cathay Pacific for Business class which has
Mel - HK -Paris
and on the way home
Rome - HK - Melb
total was $6900

Any cheaper Business or Premium economy.
Are there cheaper prices for different routes?

When are you planning to travel?

Given that you are wanting to stopover, I would look at a combination of paid fare and points but using the points from Asia/Middle East - less point spend and less taxes i.e. DXB PAR on EK in J through QFF is 100k return and $157 in taxes. Personally I have found availability on EK using points to be excellent within Uk/Europe.

Finnair usually have a fare just under/over $4k - QF or CX to Asian hub then AY to Europe via HEL with good flight connections at HEL.

Alternatively you could use points to Asia then pick up a J fare with any number of carriers - my experience is that the fares are very competitive - but it will cost you more points and tax $$.

You should be able to do an 'open jaw' fare in any scenario.
