I bought a Kobo eReader last year (it's still in warranty). Bought from a Borders store before they went belly up and closed.

So a few days ago it gets the "grey screen of death". I write to borders, apparently they say if the device is more than 30 days old then the warranty is handled by Kobo (which I think is BS, but I cant exactly take it back to the store and rant at the manager can I?).

So I write to Kobo. They got back to me in pretty quick time. I have to ship it to Canada. CANADA??!! And it has to be insured...

Should have bought a Sony...

Anyone going to Canada soon? lol.

Maybe I will just buy a new one..

Beware the Kobo.

The retailer has the contract with you with regard warranty, its up to them to service it, which in this case means Borders.

But if they go belly up then what are you to do?

Not much, of course Borders Australia is not in the position at present as part of the pearson group, I think they are also the master distributor of Kobo downunder but could be wrong.

Mid 2011 my Kobo died. I emailed their helpdesk who shipped me a replacement which arrived in a couple of days, they included a pre-paid international courier satchel to return the dead one to them, no cost to me whatsoever as long as I returned the faulty one within (I think) 60 days.
It's disappointing if they don't do this any longer, I was really happy with the way they handled my problem.

Well, looks like my option is to wait till next month when my pilot friend flies to LAX, and get him to send it. All the insured options from SYD are over $50. I would rather put that towards a new one.
If they deem it's not a warranty fault they will repair for US$60.

Maybe I'll buy a new one from DSE. QFF points!

Well, just got my (brand new) Kobo back today.
Appears it's a FF in itself.
Sent the broken one to Canada
Per Fedex the new one travelled Taiwan-China-Singapore-Sydney.

I had the exact same experience with my wife's Kobo. Very happy...in fact so happy I bought one for myself too :)
