I've done a fair bit of travel over the years having been to most of Europe, the middle East, Africa, SE Asia, Japan, North America and so forth.

On a country scale I've never been to India, Russia or China but they were not exactly on the beaten track in my peak travel days.

The one place I am thinking of however, is one that every seasoned business or leisure traveller seems to have been but I haven't. Haven't even landed and taken off again from:

New York.

What is your missing city/place/country? Somewhere every man and his dog has been but you haven't?

Thats a tough question. How do you classify places that everyone else has been to.

In my view, living in Australia, I would think that every one has been to SE Asia. However, I haven't been to BKK and KUL as I always seem to go via HKG or SIN.

There are lots of other places I have not been to that I would one day like to go to and hopefully will make it... South America being top on my list now that Africa will be crossed off in the coming months.

As a Platinum FF, I have been nearly everywhere (including all 50 US states, every province and territory of Canada), but I have never visited Singapore or Bangkok. Well, I have landed and taken off from both SIN and BKK, but never left either airport, so I don't count them as "visited". That's pretty unusual for an Aussie, I think.

I've still got a stack of places I'm keen to visit in the next few years. Top of my list is seeing some of Cuba, but I guess I'll have to do a fair bit of saving first (everyone I've spoken to who's been there says it's quite expensive).

Otherwise - Prague, Vienna (actually, most of Europe), Hong Kong, Taipei, Santiago and Rio de Janeiro are all places I want to go.

Having travelled to North America and Canada 3 times, i still have not made it to New York. I am pallning to go there this year however, somehow I think I'll miss it again.

On a separate note I wonder how many people living in Australia have seen more of the world than their own country? I have seen quite alot of oz, lived all over it, but I still have not been to Tas. Oddly enough just asking a few people at work it seems like a current trend that people are more inclined to visit an offshore location than travel to WA. Maybe because it's the same price to stay here than anywhere else? who knows.

Depends what meaning you put on "miss".My biggest mistake was not travelling to Russia in 1984 when invited by the Russian ambassador.Problem was they erent going to pay and i was short of readies then.
If my wish list then Africa and game reserves. Also possible next year is Bhutan.Cuba, more of South america,Antartica and Scandinavia are on the wish list.

Everywhere, for me as I've only really done Australasia (including the main parts of SE Asia) + Japan.

Got into overseas travel later in life by winning a fellowship to the US. Got bitten by the bug and have been to many great destinations. With a son living in LA and a daughter living in NY, I have been to the US many times. Last year went on a trip through central Europe, Greece, Spain. Haven't been to the top end but will rectify that later this year with SYD - AYQ - DRW - BME - PER - SYD. But I haven't been to London or the UK (in transit at LHR doesn't count) or New Zealand

my biggest miss is my decision to skip catching a train to berlin and to go straight through to switzerland in 1989 - missed seeing the berlin wall before it came down.

I've extensively travelled oz including some remote places but not Hobart

International has to be first hong kong. Second the checkpoint charlie muesuem in Berlin. But then I did do checkpoint Charlie in 1978!:cool:

Within Australia, have been fortunate enough to cover much of the country for work (including the Kimberleys, Tassie, Ayers Rock and lots of places in between) and personally (including the likes of Esperance and Paraburdoo/Pilbara), but what is missing is outback QLD, and maybe one day the Gulf of Carpentaria.

Internationally there is always more to see, Kenya, Nepal, the Caribbean and Eastern Europe are the big gaps. Maybe one day!

Covered all major shopping destinations. Have hit all major party spots except South America. Heard BsAs is hopping.

No interest in Africa (what else is there other than looking at Pyramids and staring at animals?) except maybe the wine regions of South Africa.

Lately I've been tiring of experimenting and would rather go back to places I love. So long as I have LA, Berlin and HK at least a couple of times a year I'm all good. :) Milan was fab for shopping (i love Prada and they get stuff straight off the catwalk there :D) but the nightlife was cough and I can get much of the same shopping done in the other Prada epiccentres/flagships like LA or even TPE anyway. Still hoping to visit BsAs one day though.

Interesting feedback...I have not been to the UK or USA, which is a bit unusual for an Aussie. However, I don't consider I've really missed out. In its place I have been to some very very interesting places in Asia.

Cheers

Well we all have our "gaps"....

I have ascended to almost 19,000 ft under my own steam (in Nepal)...

Crossed Australia by retracing the Burke & Wills route.....and have been to most places on Oz from Cradle Mountain...to the Tip of Cape York...to the middle of the Simpson Desert...on top of Mt Kosi.....to walking on Lake Ayre.

Have traveled through the Middle East, swum in the Dead and Red Seas, had snowballs thrown at me by bored taxi drivers in Jerusalem, visited many countries in Asia many times ....and New Zealand and several parts of the South Pacific.....the USA...but Europe and South America are my main two lacks. Though there are many countries I have yet to see as yet. Many, many "gunnas" to become "dunnas"!!!

Europe should be visited with a year and half & then several trips are planned there over the next few years....South America I am not sure when.

.

The wine regions are OK... but the wines are not as good as the Aussie ones! Also, I found Capetown to be a little over rated and still quite crime ridden for my liking which put a bit fo a dampner on things.

As for South America I abslutely loved Rio De Janeior... haven't done BA yet... but hope to soon!

I hear a lot about Rio, defo one to check out. However amongst my circle of friends - Sao Paolo seems to be the city with all the glamourous A-list spots whilst Rio is the more touristy city.

Cape Town doesn't sound promising! It did receive a lot of positive feedback when I started a 'Cape Town vs Seoul' thread though. Seems I won't bother with Africa ever then. :p

I think the list of places I have missed clearly out ways all the places I have been to even if a few of my friends think that I have been everywhere.

I would have to say the Great Ocean Road: Victoria and Tasmania(not including Hobart: where I spent 24 hours in June 2003)

Canada
Scotland
Wales
Ireland
Spain
Egypt
Japan
India

I will visit Canada, more specifically Niagara Falls, in a few months and I would love to visit Scotland, Wales and Ireland some day and play some of the famous golf courses as well.

I have been to most countries in Europe and some in SE Asia that I want to visit and unless something unusual happens to change my mind South America and the majority of Africa and the Middle East are on the never to be visited list.

There are a few other, not so popular, countries I would like to visit and I will see if I can schedule them in to future trips or tours.

I missd out on a chance to go to central Mongolia in 2002 or 2003 to manage a job for 3 weeks or so. The route would have been via Moscow due to our company policy during the SARS outbreak.

I declined the job and have regretted it since.

As for most other countries in the world, I can get on a plane and go basically anytime I want, but as usual, end up a typical tourist (or worst still a business traveller - you all know what I mean) and not getting to be "part" of the experience. Mongolia would have been a totally new experience.

Hohum...

My biggest miss as in "I miss this place" is without a doubt Scandanavia, Nth central Sweden... (just after winter, while there's still snow on the ground)

Mr!

I loved Stockholm during the Christmas season. Everything's v pretty. And it's also probably one of the trendiest cities I've ever visited. Booze is relatively expensive though.
