If I am reading the terms and conditions correctly then it is possible to book hotels at flybmi.com and earn destination miles with each night stayed up to a maximum of 5 night per stay.

In addition to earning miles when you stay at a partner hotel you can also earn destinations miles when you book your hotel and flight + hotel package online at flybmi.com.

Hotel grade Miles earned per night Miles earned for package
2* hotel or below 0 miles 0 miles
3* hotel 500 miles 750 miles
4* hotel 750 miles 1,000 miles
5* hotel 1,000 miles 1,250 miles

So if I book a 3 star hotel such as the Mercure for 5 nights will I earn 2,500 miles?

I have some competitive room rates on hotels in Asia and at that rate of earning a one-way business class points + pay redemption East Coast-Asia is achievable after 38 nights.

P.S Apologies for the poor formatting....

I didn't know about the 5 night thing, but so be it.

As for the rest of it, yes your calculation is correct, provided that the star rating you found matches that of the flybmi.com hotel booking portal (I believe they will get the star rating from there, and half-star ratings round down, viz. a 4.5* hotel is credited as a 4*, IIRC).

Do note carefully that some rates offered on flybmi.com portal (I think it's an Expedia tie-up) do not earn you points. This will be given to you in the rate information a few screens short of when you have to type in your credit card information; you just won't see it on the hotel selection page (IIRC - it's been a while since I've done this, and very rarely have!). Also, as always be prepared to chase bmi for the points if you don't get them, which means collecting a copy of the hotel folio when you leave as a minimum (the next step to that is calling the ICC, possibly).

Thanks anat0l.

Almost sounds too good to be true but it is in the terms and conditions.

Typical of most loyalty programs these days. Have tie up with partners but then need to chase up the points.

You can chase up missing points via email so not quite as painful as calling the ICC.

I am a big fan of the 1,000 points per night at Taj Hotels. :D

Is this what you mean or is there another area?

Award points and airline mileage may not be awarded when booking an bmi Special Rate hotel.
That is a little vague and I would not want to book and then find out if I earn miles or not. This message appears trying to book a Hilton hotel.

It would appear that every hotel is a bmi special rate hotel. It would be nice to know exactly which hotel booking earns miles as a hotel booking without miles is almost useless. I would be extremely disappointed if I booked and then did not receive miles.

I wonder if sending BMI an email would answer my question.

I think that's what I mean.

I booked such a hotel once and didn't get anything. Emailed bmi, told the stay wasn't eligible for points.

Luckily for me the room that I booked was not a big deal as far as points go. All I missed out on were a handful of A|Club points (rubbish) or 600 QFF points (not really - rate wasn't good on QF Hotels).

YMMV as always.

For anyone that is interested I have received a reply from BMI to the email I sent asking about Hotel stays.

Hi Mr JohnK,

I can confirm that any Hotel booked through www.flybmi.com for our Hotel or Hotel + Flight packages will earn you Destination miles, up to 1000 for a 5 star Hotel booking. These miles are awarded after the duration of the stay and may take 4 to 6 weeks to be credited to your Diamond Club account. No Destination miles are awarded for Hotels 2 star or less.

I hope that this is the information you were looking for ...

Not quite what the website offers (website if offering miles per night where as the email refers to iles per booking) but I guess it is still OK if the price is right.

Is anyone silly enough to mattress run for 10 nights on a golfing trip?

I've never been on a golfing trip before, but as far as mattress runs go, I've been silly enough to do one before. I'm prepared to be silly enough to do another one!

JohnK, thanks for letting me know! I did not even realised it even though I love collecting BMI points!

Mattress runs are a little harder on a golfing trip.

- Dump luggage in hotel, take clubs to bar/golf society and leave there for duration of trip.
- Wake up every day around 9:00am and get to bar around 10:00am
- Have breakfast and leave for golf course in minibuss around 10:30am
- Return to bar after golf between 5:00pm and 7:00pm
- Hang around at bar for as long as someone is around to buy drinks ;)
- Sometime between 9:00pm and 11:00pm think about dinner and go back to room for much needed rest and sleep

Does not really leave that much time to take luggage from hotel to hotel. Even more so on those roads and uneven, dangerous, footpaths.
