I will start by saying I understand the word or similiar.

Booked a car in the UK via the QF Website and selected the BMW3 series (or Similiar) with Avis.

I checked today and discover that the booking on the Avis website shows the vehicle as an Insignia !!!!!!

Spoke to Avis whol told me to speak to QF. the lady on the plat line was exceptionally helpful but couldnt do much. She did however transfer me to an Avis representative who has told me that an Insignia is definitely equivelant to a BMW 3 series.

Now lets look at this

Opel Insignia base model 2.0 engine $38K

BMW 320i base model 2.0 engine $58K

Now can some one tell me how these two vehicles are any where near the same class.

Personally I find it completely misleading to promote the car as a BMW 3 series the give you an Opel Insignia.

Now dont get me wrong im sure the Insignia is a nice car BUT its not a BMW

Avis were of no use what so ever they just told me oh well basically you will get what you get but I will put the BMW as a preference but no Gaurantees and more than likely that we will get an Insignia.

NOT HAPPY AVIS !!!!!!!

How are they not the same class? Just on price? Same size engine. How big is the boot? How many seats, doors? Wheelbase, power, torque, wheel size? Features like Bluetooth, cruise control, etc?

Price is not the only consideration.

Ahh you see it says or similar. You're not guaranteed a BMW. The insignia and the three series are similar cars. The difference in price to buy means squat.

Especially when you quote Aussie retails price's.
Retail price & features are not the same for all markets (or customers).

I wouldn't be happy either!

Biggest difference is BMW is rear wheel drive and handles very well, whilst Insignia is front wheel drive and does not handle as well. Big difference and definitely not similar ion my book!

Rental car companies ideas of similar and size are nothing like those of most people unfortunately!

To Clarify

Similiar to me would be Audi A4, Mercedes C class or Lexus. These were the 4 options given to me as comparable cars when looking for a company vehicle when living and working recently in the UK

Sure it's similar - it has 4 wheels and an engine; that makes a BMW similar to an Insignia, right? ;)

But in all seriousness, I'd be extremely p***** off as well; if I'm paying for a 5 Star Michelin meal, I certainly don't expect Burger King (even if both meals are a burger and fries). . . . .

I'd be arguing more on size (do you really want a car the size of insignia in the uk?)

We booked a golf and found out we'd been "upgraded" to an insignia. Which used more fuel and was harder to park (without scratching). Not ideal for us but nothing else on the lot. (This was Hertz btw).

In uk the prices aren't that disparate. So price argument is moot, I'd argue on size.

This is the main reason I avoid hiring cars. There was a thread on this topic some time ago. personally I booked an A4 or similar and was upgraded to a Volvo Estate  Having been given a Kia in place of a Passat I didnt accept this and eventually got the A4 I wanted...
