Hi folks,

I'm thinking about heading down to Canberra to see a friend for a weekend.

Wouldn't mind earning as many SCs as possible, given for once I'm in control of booking my flights and not the corporate travel agent!

Any thoughts as to the best way to get BNE-CBR and back without spending an entire couple of days on planes, but still accuring decent SCs per dollar?

And finally - you don't accrue SCs on rewards flights, correct?

Cheers,

Danny

Last first - you do not earn SC's or QFF points on "ineligible flights"; which includes award flights.

More here in the T&C: 9.4 Points Are Not Earned on All Flights

As for "best SC's" - What is your budget?

You can fly each way via SYD:
  • on a red e-deal economy fare from ~$315 and earn 40 SC's,
  • on a flexi economy fare from ~$820 and earn 80 SC's or
  • in Business class from ~$1245 and earn 160 SC's.

I don't have a hard budget for this trip, which makes the decision much harder. Obviously the lower the better.

Given those options, I think I might try to do it as a reward flight - none of them seem like a particularly good deal to me! Although 160 would get me to silver status, and give me a bit of a start on gold... Interesting...

The critical question is which weekend do you want to travel.

I'm seeing prices as low as $152 each way via SYD in the 2nd weekend of August but at bad times. But a lot more for next weekend. Basically, the more flight numbers the more SC earnt.

Just to clarify, because I didn't realise initially , Serfty has quoted returned fares

To enhance serfty's post

40SC @ $7.88 per SC
80SC @ $10.25 per SC
160SC @ $7.78 per SC
