Hello, newby here. Have been traveling constantly these past five years and am going Brisbane to LA in early Sept. I figure it is the shoulder season off summer then and tickets will be cheaper. I noticed prices dropped in the past two days from about $1600 to $1400 (Flight Centre). My dilemma is do I buy now or wait?

If I buy now I have got my ticket, albeit very expensive compared to my last flight with Virgin which was around $800 return. If I wait, I may get a cheaper ticket but prices may also get higher toward my due date. So how long should I leave it before buying my ticket for Sept 10 BNE LAX? Up to 4 weeks before the due date or later?

thanks in advance!

If it me was I'd buy now.

Oh, and hello.

Be careful about the Australian school holidays in Sept, but from memory I think you would be leaving about a week prior to them starting.

Welcome to AFF wearywanderer!

When to buy airfares is a dilemma we would all love to solve. This year has seen a lot of specials from many airlines for last minute travel. Have you looked at loads for those flights before and after you desired travel date? Low yields may indicate that airfare may get lower.

A friend was thinking about going to ATH in a few weeks time but the airfare was ~$2,400 and he did not really want to pay that price. Then all of a sudden TG releases a $1,950 return airfare so he jumped on it. That was back in May.

I guess everyone has a price they are prepared to pay for travel and if you can get close to that airfare all good and if you can get it even cheaper then it is a bonus.

I would buy now, its a pretty short time frame for an international journey and QF do have a sale on:

28 Jan 2012 to 05 Apr 2012
01 Aug 2011 to 14 Sep 2011$1756
01 Nov 2011 to 09 Dec 2011$1756
08 Jul 2011 to 31 Jul 2011$1856
15 Sep 2011 to 31 Oct 2011$1856
17 Jan 2012 to 27 Jan 2012$2706
10 Dec 2011 to 16 Jan 2012$3156
