The J classic redemption NRT-BNE is available when I booked it for MrsAlbatross as part of her itinerary.

Now being short of points I want to book myself NRT-BNE as a one way J redemption but it wont show on the website. It will show if I do it as part of a BNE-NRT-BNE itinerary. I wont have the required additional miles for a few weeks so I am thinking I am better to lock in the return J sector while I can.

I've tried the call centre twice tonight but doesn't seem that the required help is in season.

Any tips on how to get the classic J NRT-BNE to show.

You could fly the cousin of QFi, ie, JQi, they have started flying BNE - NRT - BNE, if you buy the (total) J plus bundle, you could fly within a few hours before or after the Mrs and either of you wait for the other in the BNE int arr hall.

QFi dep NRT at 20:10
JQi dep NRT at 21:00

Have you tried the multi-city booking tool?

It's a classic case of married segments if reward seats for NRT > BNE is not showing up, but BNE > NRT > BNE is showing up options.

I had the same issue a few days ago when searching for NRT > MEL one way - unless I also searched for a leg prior to that one, different routes / reward seats would show up.

Worked in my favour anyway, as the taxes were significantly less / were calculated in AUD as my first leg was leaving Australia.

Considering JL redemptions are being snapped up 1 year in advance, if you can see any good options - get onto it ASAP.

I managed to snap up 2 x JL business reward seats for next November from NRT > MEL direct after checking daily for a week.

Prior to securing the above booking, we procrastinated on dates for a day or so, then by the time we wanted to book, the JL business reward seats that we were thinking about / saw were snapped up and only CI business seats via Taipei were left.

I honestly didn't mind CI and transitting via Taipei (as it's a better layout being 1-2-1 instead of JL's 2-2-2 Skysuites on the B787-8, even despite all seats still having direct aisle access), but the wife as per usual wanted only direct flights even despite a poorer product.

Yep, that's typical Qantas unless you're Platinum or above and can get the Hobart call centre.

After 55 minutes on hold, 3 minutes conversation and I gave up on getting the NRT-BNE as a one way booking.

Decided to take up the EDR giftcard route this afternoon which gave me enough points to complete the return booking.
