Hello,
I am looking at using my points to book a return trip from BNE/SYD to PEK then return PVG to BNE/SYD.
Am I better off booking economy then trying to upgrade or book the whole trip using points and cash.
I have about 160K in points so I can get PVG to BNE x 2 in J for 140K now. Should I take this now and try to build up some points and then grab it closer to departure time using points and cash.

Thanks for your help

A JASA for one person to PVG will be 60000 points + $649. If you intend to go back to Asia again soon, I would look at using the points for 2 x JASAs to PVG ex BNE, then look at getting a CX return to TPE ex PVG, then buying a return J fare back to BNE ex TPE, for around $2K per person (the return needs to be used within 6 months). The points you get from doing the JASA up, then the CX flights home, will probably allow you to book another JASA home for the second trip ex PVG!

Not what you've requested... But I just got back from China and flew Garuda in Business. Routing SYD-CGK-PVG/HKG-CGK-SYD. All up it was about $2400 and the Garuda J service was excellent. Couldn't recommend them enough!
