Hi all,

Long time lurker, first time poster! I'm off to YVR next month from Brisbane on Qantas and I was wondering if anyone could give me some tips for lounges on the way. I will be QFF Platinum when I fly, so I'm trying to work out the best lounge to spend my 8 hours between flights before connecting onto Alaska Airlines. A sleeper would be nice, but from what I can see on the net, LAX does not have any. Also, is it possible to move around the different terminals to access other lounges? Or am I stuck in Terminal 3 for Alaska Airlines?

If anyone has other suggestions for spending 8 hours between flights at LAX also let me know!

Cheers.

Good luck! LAX is pretty vile airport. I'd investigate the day rates at the airport hotels, as I doubt there's anywhere to lie down...

I flew with Alaskan in F in Oct last year, LAX-SEA. I noted that the lounge at T3 actually had a sign saying that Qantas club members could use this lounge (but they can't use the lounges in SEA). I had access any way as I was flying F, but was interested to see the sign as friends had reported not being able to access the Alaskan lounge.

Hi, I haven't used T3 but will be in May 2011 and hope you can advise of access. I would assume F will have access but WP won't.

The below web link advises you can purchase a day pass for $45.00

Alaska Airlines lounge called Boardroom

Hope you post success or not? Good luck

Ok, so I have returned from my trip. I was given access to the Boardroom without any problems using my QF WP. As far as lounges go, it was pretty pathetic. Food was basically cold muffins and terrible bagels. Open bar was available, but not what I really needed. No showers, which was really disappointing, and the toilets were not much better than the ones in the terminal. Another issue was the lack of free wifi, only a paid service which kept logging out. The lounge was very quiet, and managed to spy a few Hollywood identities. Overall, not the best place to spend 8 hours during a stopover. My return trip was more successful, the AA F lounge was much better, although not too different from a QF club lounge. Lastly, the WP lounge in Brisbane was the best lounge during my trip, good food, free wifi, and great service. Qantas has a lot of problems, but the lounges compared to what some airlines run, are on a completely different level.

I got caught in LA late last year and ended up spending 6 hrs in the AA F class lounge. They have some really comfortable lay back seats down the back complete with Bose NC headsets. Very good.

very true. thanks for the update with your experiences. I go thru LAX all the time but only ever on AA/Qantas. I really like their Flounge, but I think any 8 hr stopover would suck in any airport.

Sorry to not get a reply to you before your trip. I used to go LAX YVR a few times / year. Shame you couldn't get a closer connection.
Upstairs, landside in the TBIT there is a restaurant called the Daily Grill. Lots of chairs around. Views over the balcony to the checkin areas.

I used to walk for an hour or so around the whole of LAX terminals, then go into TBIT & have a cuppa or nibbles. Then sit & watch & read a while. Maybe a bit more walking, then go into the daily Grill & have a meal that looked like lunch. Steak, mash, greens. Then head on into Terminal 3 to the Boardroom & wait for the flight.

A better thing to do could be book your flights to YVR to be LAX SFO YVR. Or LAX SFO SEA YVR. Then you can go to the LAX AA Flagship Lounge - shower, breakfast, comfy reclining chairs. Even though security is time consuming, if I have time I'll go for a walk, then the F Lounge, & then go out for a wander & come back again.

In SFO there is a terminal change, but if you have time you will be able to go into the AA Lounge again when you de-plane before changing terminals. Once in the other terminal, the Alaska Boardroom is where I wait for boarding.

The LAX SFO SEA YVR sounds like a milk run, but I'd rather be flying than hanging around. Also in SEA Anthony's restaurant is great for seafood & you can get a table overlooking the tarmac & gates. The Alaska Boardroom in SEA is the best I've seen.
